2024 Canadian Olympic Swim Trials

Recommended Posts

Happy for Angus! At least she has the OQT from 2024 world championships so she'll still be able to swim the individual event. and she's been the best relay breaststroker over the last year.

Disappointing times elsewhere though. Though likely two of Pickrem, Wog and Lepage will still qualify through the 200.

Gutted for Branton as that basically confirms she won't be going to Paris

Swimming Canada needs to change their selection criteria. It’s pretty good, but I would add that if there isn’t two qualifiers for the Olympics in an event then the highest finisher with the OQT will book their ticket on the Canadian team.

I can't help but feel disappointed again, no Wigginton, Penny realistically not being ready for her comeback, the 100m breast being a flop after a lot of anticipation.

It's definitely outweighing the good right now.

There are discretionary picks. They might just select one of them anyways, who knows

Isn't this how it is right now?

No…

Basically for you to qualify for the Olympics (the most simple ways), you have to either finish top 2 and reach the OQT, or finish top 2 and have reached the OQT in the qualification period.

MSH's time would get her into the final, Summer's time would challenge for the gold (so sad she likely can't compete in it at Paris).

Pretty disappointed with the 200m after that, though. I expected two (or even more) to get the OQT besides Summer.

Most of all disappointed by the breaststroke. No one qualifying is....not great.

Edit: Forgot to mention the backstroke. Great race there, great to see two guys qualify. Shave off another half second, could get into the final.

She narrowly missed Paris 2024 despite being in good form, the rest of he field seemed to get stronger and her ranking was a bit lower even though she was quite consistent. She struggled with injuries in 2025.   Fani Tzeli (taekwondo) - She was 7th in Tokyo 2020 but didn't qualify for Paris 2024. Still, she is only 24 yo and seemed to be rising up again after winning bronze at the European Championships so it is a bit surprising.   Aikaterini Divari (sailing) - She competed in Tokyo 2020 but didn't qualify for Paris 2024. Only 25 yo.   AJ Ginnis (alpine skiing) - Despite winning a silver at the World Championships he never got to compete at the Winter Olympics as he was always unfortunately injured. A shame as he is by far our best winter athlete ever. Only 31 yo, and I have a feeling he might come back in 2030 based on his last interview...

    • Well.  Having gotten it a bit at a distance a few comments about my experiences   Travel: Very happy. Flying to and from was a breeze (the plane home slighty delayed). The same can be said about getting around in Milano. Getting around outside was of course slightly harder, especially with some delays back from Antholx (but i guess that's not a big surprise when a lot of people leave a place in the mountains)   Atmosphere: Very happy around the venues, but it's also very clear that it's smaller than the Summer games. People weren't following the events wherever you went. Alcohol certainly made a difference between Paris and now. Sadly did experience a few who should certainly have stopped a couple of beers earlier.    The logistics at the venues:  Very easy to see that Santagiulia is new and absolutely not a perfect venue. Seems like some kinks were fixed when I got there, but there's still stuff to work out. The food at the Milano venues were meh and there were quite some lines. Tesero was a chaos when it came to getting food, but the quality was slightly better at the skiing venues.
