hckošice 13,648 Posted January 27 #232 Share Posted January 27 Renáta What a pleasant and happy news Congrats Renáta. Only the 3rd Slovak player to win a singles junior GS in history. A beautiful moment between the girls' singles finalists ❤️ Emerson Jones & Renata Jamrichova • #AusOpen • #AO2024 pic.twitter.com/l5T8tbH3sS — #AusOpen (@AustralianOpen) January 27, 2024 Jan Linha and heywoodu
Josh 7,815 Posted January 27 #233 Share Posted January 27 (edited) [2] Aryna Sabalenka is one set away from her back-to-back Australian Open titles, taking the first set 6-3 over [12] Qinwen Zheng! Edited January 27 by Josh
Monzanator 3,828 Posted January 27 #234 Share Posted January 27 Dominant serving from Sabalenka and better groundstrokes. Zheng fell behind early and despite improved serving couldn't claw it back. Could be a closer set two though.
Josh 7,815 Posted January 27 #235 Share Posted January 27 (edited) [2] Aryna Sabalenka defeats [12] Qinwen Zhang 6-3, 6-2, to win back-to-back Australian Open titles! First to achieve this feat since Azarenka did it in 2012/2013. Saba struggled a bit when serving for the match, but finally got it done after 5 set points (Zheng also had a break point) And she did it in dominant fashion, managing to not drop a set all tournament long! That’s now 14 consecutive matches won at the Australia for Sabalenka. Zheng hadn’t faced a single top 50 player all tournament, so this result seemed kind of inevitable IMO. To see what I mean, here was her draw: R128: v. Krueger (#76) R64: v. Boutler (#54) R32: v. Wang (#60) R16: v. Dodin (#94) QF: v. Kaliskaya (#75) SF: v. Yastremska (#95) Edited January 27 by Josh
Monzanator 3,828 Posted January 27 #236 Share Posted January 27 Sabalenka lives up to the pre-event favorite. Impressive performance all two weeks. Zheng had an absolute cake walk draw to make this final but couldn't really compete vs the better player. LuizGuilherme
vlad 285 Posted January 27 #237 Share Posted January 27 (edited) Sabalenka way better than Zheng today. Actually I think nobody can beat her at this moment. She really deserve the trophy. Rohan Bopanna finally makes it At almost 44 years (next month) he won a GS and is number 1 in the double ranking He totally deserves it. Congrats for his partner, Ebden, who also is pretty aged player, 36 years and congrats for Italians Bolelli and Vavassori, great tournament for them Edited January 27 by vlad LuizGuilherme and Monzanator
Monzanator 3,828 Posted January 27 #238 Share Posted January 27 Doubles players are usually somewhat older on average but Bopanna finally winning a Grand Slam at age 43 is a true throwback for the ages LuizGuilherme and vlad

Josh 7,815 Posted January 28 #240 Share Posted January 28 (edited) Su-Wei Hsieh and Elise Mertens defeat Jelena Ostapenko/Lyudmyla Kichenok 6-1, 7-5 to win their second grand title as a team! (first was Wimbledon 2022) For Hsieh, it’s a second grand slam at the Australian Open this year (8th in her career), in her final year on the WTA tour, as she also won the mixed doubles title with Jan Zielinski a couple of days ago!
