Men’s and women’s ice hockey teams have qualified for Milano-Cortina 2026 already! :thumbup:

Men’s ice hockey team qualified by virtue of their position in the IIHF World Ranking, following the conclusion of the 2023 Men’s Ice Hockey World Championships.

Women’s ice hockey team qualified by virtue of mathematically being guaranteed a quota through the IIHF World Rankings, following the 2024 Women’s Ice Hockey World Championships, as they can’t fall behind Japan.

Also, if you didn’t see @Topicmaster1010 ’s reply on the Ice Hockey 2023-24 Discussion Thread, NHL players are back

Did some early medal projections to see how things look one year out... based on current form I figure we'll win ~22 medals.

That would be noticeably down from 26 in Beijing.

It's kinda scary cause a lot of programs seem to deteriorating. The afterglow from all the 2010 funding has fully worked it way through and now we've left with a lot of empty cupboards.

How many of them are likely golds though?

I'd say 8 are favourites.

Could make a case for more. Could make a case for less. We're very strong in short track, especially the men, but that sport is a crap shoot at the best of times. Hockey and Curling could produce a bunch, but we haven't exactly been covering ourselves in glory there the last couple Olympics

According to the Freestyle Ski Canada Olympic selection procedures document, both Maia Schwinghammer and Mikael Kingsbury have secured their spots on the team in moguls/dual moguls!

Taking a look at the document again, here’s who can secure/is eligible for team nomination this week at the Freestyle Ski/Snowboard World Championships;

Up first;

Freestyle Skiing

Aerials - Emilie Nadeau, Lewis Irving, Marion Thenault

Big Air/Slopestyle - Dylan Deschamps, Olivia Asselin

Halfpipe - Brendan MacKay, Rachael Karker, Amy Fraser, Cassie Sharpe (already got the two podiums)

Ski Cross - Kevin Drury (already got the two podiums), India Sherret, Marielle Thompson (injured, already got the two podiums), Courtney Hoffos and Reece Howden (already got the two podiums)

Meghan Oldham, despite podiuming in most of the WC’s she’s competed in, will have to podium twice because it prioritizes X Games/the Stoneham WC where she couldn’t land a clean run.

Think it’ll be between Hoffos, McEwen, and Phelan for those last two Olympic spots in women’s ski cross.

Edit: Forgot about Schmidt.

    • It’s honestly baffling how bad she was in 2018. Just absolutely lost her head. Real shame too because she is so gifted. I do hope Li Jianrou sends her a Christmas card every year tho, she was absolutely gifted a gold medal by Christie in 2014.
    • Oh I’m not done yet, unfortunately. From the names that could be back but are still injured   Courtney Hoffos Mikael Kingsbury (should be back before the Olympics) Connor Howe (he returned, but nowhere close to his best so his injury is still giving him issues) Connor Bedard Meryeta O’Dine Megan Oldham
