it's a mistake of the engarde app

if you look at the brackets from a desktop PC, you can see the correct layout ;)

in the meantime, key win for :EGY against :MEX in the 1st round of the women's team foil

unfortunately for them, also :SGP won their first match, so they are still in competition with some good points up for grabs

:EGY need to defend 14 points over :SGP to save their place in the top 16 of the OQR and seal their qualifying spot

now :MEX and any other team already behind the Africans are definitely out of contention...it's down to the aforementioned pair of teams

I went to the French fencing federation website and found a link to follow the competition! are there more at stake for women's foil except the European quota? Germany Hungary Poland?

Maxime Pauty! What a miracle ! He went up 9 Tocuhes! We beat Hungary very painfully!! 45-43!! Now China would have to lose so that Poland could win the European quota!!

At the moment we are suffering, with the injury of Enzo Lefort, Savin and Mertine are as bad as their feet, and the changes of coaches constantly nothing is going well.. We will cross our fingers that China loses against the USA and that we beat Germany...

men's Team Foil, Semifinals

:JPN vs :FRA and :ITA vs :USA

:HKG lost in the round of 16, which means that they will lose a lot of points from the top 4 teams and also a good amount of points from :CHN who are in the 5th-8th place bracket

now :CHN are quite far away from the top 4, but they increase their margin over :HKG for the Asian spot (it was already good 16 pts, however)

following Today's results, in the men's Team Foil :ITA:JPN:USA:EGY are mathematically qualified to the Games

:POL might also join the company, need to see how the tournament ends for them and :GER and make some calculations (I'm going to be more precise later)

update...

:POL are also mathematically qualified in the men's Foil (European spot)

no, sorry...my mistake...

until :FRA are not in, :POL are still in danger...gotta wait until the end of Today's tournament to see how many points :FRA will gain over :CHN

:ITA just threw a 36-28 lead away against the :USA in the men's semifinal

thanks to Garozzo, of course...why is he still closing our assaults when he's not anymore even among the top 4 italians??? :wall:

according to the results so far, in the women's Team Foil :ITA:FRA:USA:JPN:CAN and :CHN are mathematically qualified to Paris 2024

the only fights still open are those for the European spot (:GER vs :POL, with the teams that at the end of the day will be separated by 1 point in favor of :GER to 4 points in favor of :POL, depending on Today's final results) and :EGY trying to save their 16th place in the OQR (at the end of Today's tournament, :EGY will have an advantage between 11 and 13 points over their only contender, :SGP)

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
