Tokyo 2020 Day after Day as it could have happened

Recommended Posts

Weightlifting qualification system is very complicated. Here is a bit of explanation

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weightlifting_at_the_2020_Summer_Olympics_–_Qualification?wprov=sfla1

Anyway, IMHO for all these terrible doping violations weightlifting should be excluded from the Olympics for some time.

It'd be better to kick out a sport that tries less hard to fight against it and has less severe sanctions. Weightlifting bans entire nations.

I believe removing the event is not that smart. Hate the sin not the sinner is what I believe. Why innocent athletes should suffer. But I believe the qualification system and people running the sport aren't that good .

For the men's decathlon on day 13 you seem to have missed Kevin Mayer (FR). He dropped out due to injury at the 2019 world championship, but in a fit state he is imo the favorite for gold or a medal at the very least.

His fitness is always the question, but yeah, if he's in shape and nothing weird happens (there's 10 events for that to happen, so obviously it's not a given) it'd be hard to imagine someone beating him.

I believe first he has to qualify for the games, I think he is still not

First he needs to qualify ...

Niklas Kaul improved by almost 500 points last year, if he can make another jump like that (he has 2 years time for that) it is very hard to imagine him not beating Mayer. Mayer is extremely inconsistent. He bombed out at the last two mayor competitions and I think he never scored more than 8834 points at a big competition (which is only roughly 150 points more than what Kaul scored last year). If the olympics would have taken place as scheduled,  Kaul would have been the heavy favorite but in 2021 it should be more open. Apart from all that it is almost grotesque to predict Warner ahead of Kaul ...

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.
