I wanted to do an overall summary, so here it is for all the athletes who made it into the main rounds of the individual events.  61 nations have qualified.   23 athletes - 22 athletes

Kharlan got disqualification, Ilieve advanced into the R16(

Preliminary rounds are done in men's sabre and women's epee.    The number of athletes per nations qualified for the Round of 64:   Men's sabre (25 nations)   4 athletes

Really strange outcome for the European teams. Huge chance for  :GRE  :UKR  :HUN  tomorrow in the fight for the European quota.

 

:ALG is 14th, they are coming for the African quota.

 

But America flopped, there might not be a second American team in the Top16.  The 16th place threshold can be close for :CAN to win the American quota.

 

There will be a lot of drama here in the Olympic qualification...

Yes, they are for now. This is a big chance for them to solidify their Top4 place on the Olympic ranking. 

 

Meanwhile :GER wins against :KAZ in men's epee. Really important win for them. They keep their chances alive, hoping that France, Italy and Hungary will all be Top4 on the Olympic ranking.

Women's sabre Olympic ranking (8th place points given to the Top8 teams before the QFs)

 

So Top8 teams can still gain a lot of points tomorrow.

Why Egypt would not take the quota?

      Also, other results of note    Jimmy Gressier with a new European record of 12:51 in the men's 5km at the Urban Trail de Lille, moving to #2 on the all-time list and only about two seconds off the WR.    In the women's 5km, 17 year old  Marta Alemayo went 14:15 to move to #3 on the all-time list.    14 year old  Camryn Dailey with an U14 WR of 22.73 in the girls 200m into headwind at the Florida Relays, and another 14 year old  Melanie Doggett was 2nd in 22.80     Max Thomas 9.90 PB in the men's 100m at the Florida Relays, now #2 on the top list for the season    Monae Nichols with a PB of 7.07m in women's long jump at the Miramir Invitational   22.25 for  Mariah Maxwell in the women's 200m at the Texas Relays, although 3.8m/s wind.

      Keep an eye for  Shanoya Douglas in the upcoming years...   22.11 in the U20 200m, new WL and tied for #3 on the U20 all-time list with the legend Allyson Felix, and 11.13 in the U20 100m despite a bad start at the CARIFTA Games. And she's 18 years old
