Wow, that's a disaster for France. They lost everyone in the R16, not a single French fencer in the women's foil Top8. The Italians can potentially win 3 medals.

actually, I'm impressed with Errigo's very, very good physical & mental shape so far

 

she was really outstanding in last year's gold medal match revenge against  Thibus

and here we go!  Martina Batini is also through to the quarterfinals 

 

maximum result still possible, 4 girls in the top 8 (and 1 safe in the medal ranking -but also 1 mathematically out of the medals  because of the Volpi vs Batini matchup)

Very impressive, congrats to the four of them ! 

I couldn't watch the fights, but yes, seeing our three girls being defeated one after the other is depressing (especially Ysaora Thibus, reigning world champion, but congrats to Arianna Errigo for the win and the revenge from last year !) . 

Let's see if one of our men can win a medal today.
