Don't really understand why the IIHF even went down this rabbit hole. Lower tier hockey events don't scream to me as a security threat.

Also sounds like the NHL plans to play on the 2026 and 2030 Olympics

IIHF just announced the best hockey players will be going to Milan and 2030.

Wooooo! I just want to see the best playing the best. McDavid and McKinnon (and many, many others) finally in the Olympics! 

 

I think this will help SLC win their bid, especially if they get their new arena and NHL team.

they also announced that before Beijing 2022, but things went the wrong way quite quickly...

Risk of infection isn’t why they backed out, it’s because 2021/22 was a compressed schedule due to COVID and because China had travel restrictions that could have left players stranded there for weeks if they tested positive.
