Eh I remember last time we didn't even list here the jordanian medalist and also that a universality shot put athlete from Congo was 4th, so... I don't think I should tighten the criteria. Otherwise the list would be 7 people and this thread would be boring.

As for Mali, are you certain they have no chance left to qualify? Like, there aren't any more events to earn ranking points? (How far away are they from a place at the OQT btw?).

Surprises are very common in taekwondo though.

Mali is at least 15 places behind possible OQT participation. It's not going to happen. And if we list Mali based on this questionable (and largely wrong) hunch, then we may as well list all 300+ events for all countries...

Finally got around to updating the athlete database on my website. Below are athletes not yet listed which achieved a top 8 result in an Olympic event at a World Championship dating back to 2017.

:ALBAlbania – Evagjelia Veli (Weightlifting, Women’s -59kg)

:ASAAmerican Samoa – Josh Failauga (Wrestling, Men’s Freestyle -57kg)

:BENBenin – Odile Ahouanwanou (Athletics, Women’s Heptathlon)

:BIHBosnia and Herzegovina – Nedzad Husic (Taekwondo, Men’s -68kg)

:TKMTurkmenistan – Kristina Sermetowa (Weightlifting, Women’s -55kg)

For your "qualifies by merit" restriction, are you counting only World Qualifiers or would qualifying via Continent Qualifiers be enough?

What part of my criteria are you talking about?

This one

That is for sports in which you qualify by reaching a certain mark, doesn't matter which competition it is achieved as long as it's achieved.

Basically, this is only for athletics and swimming.

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
