first ever men's European title for :ITA :yikes: :champion:  :cheer:

and Tomorrow the girls will compete to confirm themselves on the Continental throne.

should this happen (and it's not impossible at all), :ITA would be the unbelivable, undisputed owner of European gymnastics (in absence of Russia).

Undisputed? That's stretching your credibility just a bit - remind me which European nation was the only one to qualify for Olympics at the 1st opportunity cos it certainly wasn't Italy :d. Don't get me wrong - a great result for the Italian guys but they barely scraped home against a seriously weakened Team GB.

absent people are always wrong :p

p.s. undisputed = men + women champions, with no other Nation sharing the honor (for this year only, of course...I know there are better men's teams on paper, but they didn't perform/show up in this case).

tbh, very disappointing performance by our girls (they scored almost 166 points last week in the Jesolo Trophy vs the Americans -tbh, a 3rd tier team from the USA).

as usual, the balance beam was a disaster with falls, mistakes and low D scores to start.

even at the floor, which is supposed to be one of our strong apparatus, we had a lot of troubles (we couldn't even use the 4th girl) and mistakes.

well deserved loss, in the end.

hopefully our media will stop overexposing these girls. they are good, but not that good as they are depicted.

or maybe not...our media usually never learn from their capital mistakes.

So @Rafa Maciel does this mean that @Phelps admits that even a below strength :GBR team is better than :ITA ?  ;)

Today :ITA were so awful that even a below strenght :GBR was way better than us (p.s. still, Gadirova is shamefully overestimated every time she gets on the stage).

by the way, also :ITA were not in full strenght...add the sub-par performance and you have this ranking (where we've been lucky to win a medal, at least).

    • Yep. Not sure if it was the NOC or the biathlon federation (I assume the latter) that put him in the Livigno training 'world' with a former Italian biathlete as coach, but they can definitely also be blamed:  almost everyone involved in that shitshow got the motivation just sucked out of them by the methods and shitty atmosphere until they either retired or changed country

    • Lots of injuries, including often just pure bad-luck stuff like a fall from a set of stairs, illness, and of course the Sochi tragedy in 2014: one of her biathlon friends, young Julia Pieper, killed herself with a biathlon rifle early during the Olympics (she wasn't on the team, but was a training partner of both Preuss and Dahlmeier). Obviously a hard hit, which led to terrible Olympics for Preuss, with a DNF, awful results in her other individual races and a relay where she was the first runner for Germany, but fell early on, got snow in her rifle and broke a pole and ended up losing almost 3 minutes, which in turn resulted in Germany being off the podium for the first time ever.   After that came all the injuries and illness and everything. So glad to finally see her have her big individual global gold, that is so well deserved.
