Russian Athletes and Teams pathway to Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024

Recommended Posts

Do we already know if the Russian and Belarussian swimmers will take part in the Olympics? And if so, which ones? More specific Kolesnikov, Rilov and Chikunova.

they are the only ones with OQT. Provided that Russian swimmers swim in international events, I think they will go

Rylov said that he will not go to the Olympics. He also took part in a pro-war rally

I think you've made it quite clear that if you take part in a pro-war rally you aren't going to be excluded from the Olympics :p

This "thought police" policy to accept or deny athletes is madness.

It should be accept everyone or no one. No in between.

Then the answer will be no one, and it’s clear that some won’t accept that so around we go in circles again

Russian swimmer and world record holder Yevgenia Chikunova appears to support Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

On Instagram, "neutral athlete" Chikunova liked three posts in support of the war and Putin by another swimmer and war supporter, Yevgeny Rylov.

In the first post, dated May 9, 2022, which Chikunova liked, Rylov says that he "supports his president, who does not allow clouds to gather near our borders." Also in this post, Rylov grieves that "our guys are dying."

In a post dated May 9, 2023, which was also liked by Chikunova, Rylov shared a photo of himself at a propaganda rally with the letter Z on his jacket. He wrote about his "sincere support for his President Putin" and that he "did not betray the dignity of the country." Rylov also emphasized that he does not regret his decision to support the aggression against Ukraine.

In a June 24, 2023 post also liked by Chikunova, Rylov says that he always "supports his president Putin" and that all people "should be on the same side as the president."

These are the kind of posts that the "neutral" athlete Yevgenia Chikunova likes.

    • Shades of 1998 with  and  in the same group but this time it's really a terrible draw for the Thistles. I recall Brazil and Scotland played in the same group in 1974 and 1990 too so that's quite a high probabiliy rate.

    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
    • Belgium is the luckiest in this story
    • One of the worst possible draw for us. Group really easy but having to face  or  in the Round of 32 is devastating.
