Come on guys, even not following NBA that much, there is no doubt that Giannis would be by far the most known name among those announced as flag bearers until now.

Never watched even a quarter of NBA match. Don't follow basketball either except during few multi sport games.

i think other sports are popular in India like tennis, not sure about basketball

It's not that cricket is the only followed sport. Though it's the most followed there is a sizeable following for Badminton, Kabaddi, Tennis, TT, Football Wrestling, Athletics, Boxing all forms pro/amateur, Golf, Shooting, Hockey and some more.

We have had problems with our basketball federation infighting which hasn't helped and we don't even send our teams to Asian Games and there is only a negligible market for the sport.

I personally follow a lot of summer and winter sports from Biathlon to Surfing and Sepaktakraw to Figure Skating.

Football, Aquatics, Judo, Gymnastics, Basketball, Volleyball are some of the sports that don't fall in my list.

So happy for Safronova. This will be her last Olympics & she has been at the fore front of Kazakh sprinting. Achievements shouldn’t always be judged by medals but what you have done for the sport in your country. Glad that inspite of Athletics programme starting in the 2nd week, the Kazakh NOC has decided to honour her as a flag bearer.

There's just one hockey in the country that's played, even though in only a few pockets, on the astroturf outside.

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
