Semi-Final A - Result

1) :MEX Emiliano Hernandez - 1203 pts

2) :CZE Martin Vlach - 1203 pts

3) :GBR Charles Brown - 1202 pts

4) :CHN Zhang Linbin - 1202 pts

5) :EGY Mohanad Shaban - 1202 pts (Quota)

6) :EGY Ahmed Elgendy - 1202 pts

8) :KOR Jung Jinhwa - 1200 pts

9) :HUN Bence Demeter - 1200 pts

Strong run by :CZE Vlach - 13 seconds quicker than the rest of the field and moves him comfortably into qualifying spot. :HUN Demeter in contrast was one of the slowest in the run but had enough of a cushion to hold on to last qualifying position.

Lol. Nine competitors covered by three points. 🤔

This happens in qualifications,  sometimes when athletes guarantee qualifying they hold each other hands on finish line and cross the line at the same time and thus u will find tied athletes , but in the final it's very much different story just like athletics sometimes

Seems very risky if they did this when they only finished two pts clear of the 10th placed athlete.

Who the hell is Roman Popov?

I'm just kidding, he is our obvious biggest hope for future years. BUT how he can serve so much power in laser-run?

It means that Popov try to fight for Olympic quota tomorrow, and who knows, maybe it will be other big sensation :hyper:

Thanks, and to conclude my curiosity. How big chances to qualify via ranking have Kasperczak, Stasiak, Nowacka and Dominiak?

I should have put a caveat in previous message on the likelihood of qualifying via rankings - it is still very early days (I think there have only been counting events and they have tended to favour European nations)

Natalia Dominiak - Probably your best chance of quota in the women's event. She is currently ranked 22 in the world and has had a couple of good results in 2023 - 12th in World Cup Final and 11th in Budapest World Cup so the fact that she didn't make it out of qualifying at the World Champs this week is a bit of a surprise. If she can replicate her form in the 2024 World Cup season, then she should be well placed to qualify.

Oktawia Nowacka - Difficult to make a call as she doesn't have a lot of recent competition experience to make the judgement on. She didn't do much at European Games (37th) or the Poland Challenger Event (24th). So I guess it could happen but I would be surprised.

If you're aiming for 2 quotas on the women's side, I think your best chances are going to be through Dominiak and Maliszewska.

Sebastian Stasiak - Currently Polish number 2 (behind already qualified Lukasz Gutkowski) is ranked 39th in the world. He had a good Cairo World Cup leg but had to withdraw from the World Champs during qualifying which is going to hit his Olympic Ranking but he should still be able to get himself into a qualifying position.

Kamil Kasperczak - Ranked 60 in the world but hasn't really put in any stellar performances this year that would suggest that a quota spot is likely.

I think you're going to end up with a repeat of your 2021 quotas - Gutkowski and Stasiak

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
