Unruh must be sitting at home crying right now. Can't believe that Peters made the final, Unruh had a huge chance this week. Overall crazy results. Gazoz was the only "expected" individual medalist. Valencia (and maybe D'Almeida) winning a medal wasn't really shocking either, but apart from that the results were very unexpected and probably won't be repeated next year.

Peters wasn't expected to make the podium, but the result wasn't totally unexpected (He was 5th at the WC in Medellin) and IMO his world ranking (#31) is not reflective of his current level. Archery is a very unpredictable sport, anyone can beat anyone.

That's archery for you kinda, although this tournament has been pretty crazy even for archery standards.

4 out of the 8 individual semifinalists are from the Americas, 2 from Europe (if you include Gazoz) and 2 from Asia. Europe might win both golds despite only having 2 out of the 8 individual semifinalists. Always interesting to see the difference between archery and shooting. India (so far), China, the US, Hungary and Norway are doing much better in shooting than in archery. The Netherlands for example is almost nonexistant in shooting. Japan and Mexico also seem to be doing much better in archery.

Also interesting: I just looked at the shooting medal from the last olympics and i was shocked to see that India didn't win a single medal while South Korea only won 1 medal. :SMR won twice as many medals as :IND, :JPN:KOR and :GER combined ... :mumble:

Combined number of medals of :IND, :KOR, :JPN, :GER:FRA and :ITA: 3

Combined number of medals of :SMR and :SRB: 4

Interesting that it seems to be more unpredictable than shooting. I guess if archery would have more rounds it would also be more predictable. More shots = Less unexpected outcome.

Marcus was the current silver medalist, leader of the world ranking and had won a stage of the World Cup that year. For me, he is among the medalists was fully "expected".

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)
