a few interesting results in the first couple of days of this first GP tournament of the year.

mainly, :ISR Sagi Muki's comeback, which didn't go as good as many people expected.

for :ITA Italy, OK, it's a second, maybe even third tier team, but still, the results so far are worse than what it should be, except for Capanni's bronze yesterday in the women's -57kg (especially considering that the girl is still 19).

it's the other way round... ;)

:AUS Coughlan won the gold medal match vs :VEN Rodriguez (3 shido against the Venezuelan girl after almost 10 minutes, in the Golden Score period).

I'm almost shocked :yikes:

I can't believe :CZE Lukas Krpalek came down to the -100kg weight class, after fighting since 2017 in the Superheavyweights (winning the Olympic Gold Medal in Tokyo in that class, after the Gold in the -100kg in Rio).

The Brits are having an absolute shocker of a tournament in Paris. All three of the women in action - including world number 1, Renshall lost their opening bout whilst our sole male competitor today, Eric Ham could only make it to the round of 32.

it looks that IJF has already lifted their ban on Russian & Belarussian athletes and they will be able to comback from the Grand Slam tournament following the next one in Tel Aviv...:yikes:

I really hope that those are just rumors with no real consistency...

    • need to work on the celebrations... or just drop them?   Btw, these jerseys suck and I remember Zambia playing in all white with red numbers. At least they have orange on national flag but still...
    • British Columbia in general and Vancouver in particular are awesome and it’s great more people got to discover it thanks to Vancouver 2010.
    • And of course the British being famous for curmudgeons, there were always plenty of curmudgeons to quote.  Then of course from the opening ceremony and the cycle race on the very first morning it was obviously going to be triumph, so everyone just shut up for a while.
    • Yep, the amount of emergency services I heard at some point was a little extreme (for our little town), so I checked what was going on and saw they were all being called to a specific location. Until then I thought maybe it was part of a parade of trucks and agricultural vehicles that was on it's way from the next town over, decorated with lights and stuff.   Since I knew it was on the parade route, I was sure one of those big vehicles had hit people somehow (there were, besides the many vehicles, also two helicopters on the way, meaning it certainly wasn't about a single victim).   We picked our bikes and went to take a look, absolutely chaos in the area. Never saw so many services combined together, fire trucks from 20km away, ambulance after ambulance came racing by, people frantically trying to make way for them (the roads weren't really closed yet).   While there we heard someone who had been close say that the parade hadn't arrived yet and what seemed to have happened was that a car from the other side came onto the roundabout and simply never turned. "It's a massive drama over there, unbelievable", he said.   Quite quickly rumours started spreading of course, the first one turned out to be true: a middle aged (local) woman was behind the wheel and seems to have become unwell. Local security camera showed the car going at high speed right before the roundabout.   Plenty of rumours going around in terms of who were involved of course, and people keeping each other up to date to see if they know this or that family and such...   Never expected my little town to be big news in the Netherlands, even including some breaking broadcasts, live reporters and everything, damn. By far the biggest thing to happen here in my memory
    • This is the home town of our very own @heywooduand @brunamoura
    • For me, these were very good Olympics, and British sport benefited greatly from them, and is still benefiting. I fear it will be much worse here. Canada also benefited very good on Vancouver 2010 – this is very good see in the medal standings of subsequent Winter Games after 2010 and earlier.
    • Nobody hates Britain more than the British media so… I recall it being quite a pessimistic tone before the London games started.
    • I'm curious what was written before London 2012? Did they attack their own country, or did they just keep quiet?
    • Other winners at the PanAm Sports Awards Junior 2025
    • Very true point.  Although I think at this point everyone is just holding their collective breath until the test event.  The NHL isn't going to rage anymore until then because it's not like that would make the arena progress go any quicker
