Another idea for a list which I thought could be interesting, which got in my mind thanks to a post in the table tennis thread.

Apparently, Fiji will be represented in table tennis for the first time in Olympic history, which got me thinking, which other nations will have these kind of "firsts" in the different sports?

- Kosovo doesn't count, as it'll be their first Olympics (same thing for South Sudan?)

Nation List

  • :ALG Algeria - Sailing

There are plenty of nations that will be making their debut in certain sports. Dominican Republic, Palestine, Qatar, Chinese Taipei and Zimbabwe qualified for the first time ever in equestrian, for example.

New sports (golf, rugby) and new nations (Kosovo and South Sudan) shouldn't count here.

Rugby and Golf doesn't count right?

I'm doubting about rugby, because it has been at 4 Olympics, but not in the rugby sevens format...

Golf was in the 1900 and 1904 Olympics so technically every country there would be new, but maybe it'd be more interesting if we don't look at rugby and golf indeed.

True, although I wouldn't say that's a nation :p

Once again a great idea man. interesting thread :yes

for SVK it´s not official, but the things looks fine (at least I hope) for our first ever entry in beach volleyball. It´s true that for now our pair "Domi/Nata" are in fact under the qualifying ranking line, but I´m confident here

    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.
    • Mary Rand has died aged 86. The first British woman to win a Gold in track and field at the 1964 Tokyo Games (where she also took home a further two medals in the Women’s 4x100m relay and Pentathlon).
    • Athing Mu competed in the USA trials in 2024 and 2025 post the 2023 rule changes. She also won Gold in 2022 and Bronze in 2023.    Jelimo the jury is out. She doesn’t look male like the other two do.
    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
    • badminton queen Carolina Marin announced that she can't take part into the home Europeans in the upcoming weeks because of her injured knee and calls it a career 😭
    • yes, there are (or there was, at least) don't forget that the women's 800m had world and olympic champions like Semenya, Jelimo and Nyonsaba...basically, it was 10 years of DSD winners only the same Athing Mu was suspected to be DSD (never confirmed, but somehow she totally disappeared after Tokyo) then, there were the 2 girls from Namibia (1 won a medal over 200m in Tokyo) in Italy we have the living scandal Valentina Petrillo (a paralympian!!!), who's actually a real man not to mention the weightlifter from who took part into the Tokyo Games so, it's a real problem all around the globe, not just a US crusade against a few woke idiots
    • First big meet ofthe Outdoor Tour is the Maury Plant from Melbourne tomorrow morning.  Good few people from Poland last weekend have made the long plane trip to Oz.   https://worldathletics.org/competitions/world-athletics-continental-tour/news/world-olympic-stars-maurie-plant-melbourne
