Does anyone know if Laura Deas has retired?

Yeah, pretty sure she did.  Last result February 2023.

Offically she's still on a maternity break after the birth of her daughter in 2024 but it does seems unlikely she'll ever  return to competition.

Staying on the subject of skeleton. The final races of the World Cup will be held tomorrow and they also double up as the European Championships.

Matt Weston only needs to finish in the top 15 to retain the World Cup and if he doesn't a top 6 finish for Marcus Wyatt will do the same trick.

In the women's event, good finishes for the Brits will certainly see 3 in this year's final World Cup top 10.

But there also European medals on offer. GB team will be Weston, Wyatt, Bostock (men) Coltman, Tarbit, Stoecker (women)

Skeleton update

Marcus Wyatt wins World Cup bronze and European Championships silver.

Matt Weston finishes 9th but clinches the overall World Cup title with Wyatt taking 2nd place.

Interesting dilemma for the selectors after the Scottish curling champs this weekend.

On the women's side, it looks like Rebecca Morrison has moved into vice-skip position with lead Sophie Jackson taking over the role of skip. They were beaten in the final by Fay Henderson's rink. Given the critical nature of the World Champs this year for Olympic qualification, will the selectors keep faith with Morrison or give the nod to Henderson?

For the men I have a feeling that Mouat will probably still be selected for the World Champs despite losing the Scottish final to Ross Whyte. They've had a pretty strong start to the year in the Grand Slam and at the Europeans.

Great result for our U-23 Cross Country Skl Team in the Worlds - 10th place finally, after being as high as 6th at one point.  That is certainly the first ever British Relay team this century - don't know if we ever had teams out back in 80s and early 90s when we were last active in the sport.  Team was Gabriel Gledhill, the only one with World Cup Starts, Tabitha Williams, James Slimon & Elke Hammerstein (seems to be a US import) - the two girls are 20 and 19, so plenty of time left to develop on the U-23 circuit.

Hammerstein's a Londoner. The fact she went to Cheltenham Ladies College suggests she's not short of a few quid..

Father might be a German aristocrat

OK, it was just that all her earliest FIS results are from US ski competitions, like Joe Davis.
