Track Cycling UCI World Championships 2022

by the way, very disappointing night so far...

I expected 2 gold medals from Barbieri (who spent too much in the early stages and with that move to edge Valente out in the forelast elimination) and from the boys of the men's team pursuit, where we paid the slow start (not having Lamon in the final wasn't a good idea) and the hour record attempt by Ganna last Saturday (he didn't have the last km he had in Tokyo, unfortunately)...

let's see what happens with the women's team pursuit (if they don't go below 4.10 it's a huge disappointment)...

:CAN Canada! :yikes:

really surprising outcome in the men's Scratch race...

:ITA Pinazzi made a capital mistake trying to close down on Grondin with about 5 laps to go, then he didn't have anything left in the tank in the final sprint...

I'd be very disappointed if they don't improve a lot...all the girls are still young and Guazzini is going to be the new Ganna, I hope.

now we have at least 6/7 girls to choose from who could/should be the core of the team for the next 2/3 Olympic cycles.

the only risk is that our girls start thinking too much to the road races (they are already a very successful group also in that discipline).

The GBR team for 2024 could be Archibald. Kenny, the Barker sisters and the Backstedt sisters.

My problem is that Zoe Backstedt might destroy the rest of the British team

Don't see anyone stronger than Capewell or able to do better than her today in the British squad.

I think Emma Finucane might be a superstar in 1 or 2 years time.

Yeah, Italy got nothing the times Ganna came to the front.  Man-of-the-month Milan did more.

First ever medal for a French women's team pursuit, unthinkable even a couple of years back. Still a young squad, pretty much following Italy closely but always a bit late. Not the same pool as the Italians but hopefully the successful youngsters will provide the team with talent in the years to come.

Pretty good set of results for :GBR so far - matching or showing strong progression since Tokyo across all events except the men's Keirin (and to be fair Jason Keny had no business winning that gold medal)

Given my obsession with rankings, am confidently predicting that GBR will remain in qualifying position across all 4 of the key events.

    • It's an interesting question, Norway is certainly expanding their efforts into a number of new sports. So, that cannot help but to peal off a few more natural athletes. I know their training methods are kinda rocking the world in a number of summer endurance sports.  I can't really speak to they dynamics of their development program. Their men's nordic programs largely always seem to be ridiculously deep, overwhelmingly so the last decade or so.

    • But it seems to us that Norway wasn't as strong in Lillehammer 1994 as it was later? And not just in women's events. Generally, until 2000, Norway was much weaker in women's biathlon and women`s cross-country skiing. I remember in the 1990s, Italy's biggest rivals, Belmondo and di Centa, were Russia, when Norway somewhere further back and only in the classic style. Bente Martinsen- Skari, this is their first really strong girl in cross country, just about 2000, just like Liv Grete Skielbreid- Pioree in women`s biathlon at similar times.   Do you think, that is there any hope that thanks to the popularity of Haaland and football in general in Norway in recent years, winter sports such as biathlon or cross-country skiing will lose a little bit, becouse that?

    • This suggestion  @Dnl  made some months ago has also been implemented.   In each club, I have added a "Milano Cortina 2026 Qualification Tracker" record which takes the content from the Qualification by Nation tracker of that NOC.   People who see it can not edit the content, but it will be automatically updated once @Matej will update the record, and if you notice any mistake feel free to report it to Matej or in the record itself.   Club's admins can now edit the name of the section into their own language or change the spelling, I have used "Milano Cortina 2026 Qualification Tracker" for all the clubs. To do so, go inside the section, then click on "Manage Club"-"Edit this database Record" and change the name of the section:     By the way, if you are not a club's admin but you would like to edit things inside the club just let me know and I will give you the rights to do so. There can be more "admins" inside the club with the rights to edit and organize the sections, and that's not a role that require time or commitment.   Let's try to make all the clubs active during MiCo and when the LA28 qualifications will start!
