Skylar Park and Anastasija ZOLOTIC will likely meet in the f8 (if they win their first round match) in Tokyo, with the latter having won every match between them. Does not look good for a medal in taekwondo in Tokyo.

A - you never know what will happen at the Olympics

B - in 2016 the host quota was automatically seeded at 4, not sure if that's happening this time but it would knock Zolotic down to 7th seed.

Men's basketball team's road to the Olympics is shut down.  Very disappointing.  A team of NBA "stars" lost to one without any.  Canadian basketball players don't seem to have any drive playing for the national team.  Very sad, they could be medal threats if they competed at the level they're capable of.

Canada's team size stands at 371 athletes atm.

Rugby +2

Water polo +1

Field hockey +2

Football +4

These sports alternates will count now (waiting for final confirmation). So that is 380 athletes right there.

These can add to the team:

-Men's hammer throw (Athletics) - Adam Keenan is the first reserve

-Laurence Vincent Lapointe is still waiting to hear if she can compete in canoeing

-An appeal on the exclusion of the equestrian jumping team is still outstanding ?

-There is an appeal currently regarding Jeremy Chartier's potential participation in Tokyo. Verdict now going to the courts, FIG rejected appeal.

-Any B standard swimmer being invited to the games (unlikely, but still a possibility exists).

so if everything is positive then we are looking at 380+ athletes

I think they have jumped the gun. If Arley can prove it was not intended for competition, his ban will still allow him to compete.

    • I can finally piggyback off @vinipereira predictions to deliver my own    I'll be honest. I was rather busy during most of the awards season, so I wasn't able to see as much as I wanted to, or normally would have been able to. Therefore, I'm relying heavily on pundit predictions and general feel this time around.     If there was a category for best poster artwork, my nominees would be: Bugonia, Eddington, Dracula, The Sound of Falling, Sirāt   I'd give best animal acting to Pipa from Sirāt   And my favorite scenes from the year are... Kids getting bewitched, Weapons Gladys getting her just desserts, Weapons Car chase, One Battle After Another I Lied To You, Sinners Turn that shit up, Sirāt Playing with arrows, The Love That Remains Street dance, The Life of Chuck Cold open, Warfare Final scene, The Plague Ship prayer, The Testament of Ann Lee

    • Yeah same story. Good for Venezuela.
    • Btw I highly recommend the short film 'Butterfly' which has a story related to the Olympics.
    • Once again here I am with my annual Oscar predictions post. Last year I predicted 13/23 winners which was my worst results ever by far. For the second consecutive year Brazil is nominated so I'm hoping that 'The Secret Agent' wins something, especially because it's a film from my home state. I watched 34 out of the 35 feature films (only 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' missing) and all 15 short films nominated, so I leave a personal ranking of all the categories.   ["will win" is my prediction / "could win", my alternate prediction / "should win", my personal ranking / "shoud have been nominated", a way to remember other notable work].
    • I don't know how soon that'll be though... and until then not holding my breath. Really wanted to see Caissie crushing balls at the Olympics, he deserved it for his play this tournament, and now he might not get the opportunity to. He's still young, but this will probably be Canada's best chance, and he'll only be around for Brisbane 2032 at best considering the bids in contention for 2036.    It just sucks, constant disappointment for the Canadians this year with barely anything to cheer for, and coming so close only to come up short... I'd rather us have just lost in the group stage
    • I think instead of allocating 2 spots here (for Americas) WBSC should have allowed 3 spots (rather than 2) in the 2027 WBSC premiere. ( 1 each for Asia, Europe & Americas)   That way it would have ensured two things : ONLY the top team from Americas gets the quota here ( deservedly so) additionally it would have allowed teams from Americas a second shot at qualification from the 2027 premieres.    Getting only 1 tournament , more than 2 years ahead of olympics is very harsh on the teams from Americas.
