It was a regional multi-sport games held under the auspices of Virtus, which is a para sport organization serving athletes with an intellectual impairment. Virtus is more about elite sport, as where the Special Olympics is more about inclusion (no matter ability level).

I believe one (or maybe more) of the following para sports will be included as well: Wheelchair Rugby, Wheelchair Dance, Para Ju-Jitsu, Freediving Disabled.

 

The IWGA also mentioned a proposal regarding Powerboating in the article, but the status of that seems unclear to me.

 

All of those sports/disciplines have been confirmed as a part of the sports program

As if the EYOF, FISU University Games, and Jeux de la Francophonie weren’t enough, the World Police and Fire Games also open tonight in Winnipeg
