Gracenote projection now has us finishing with 6 golds and 20 total medals now

Ridiculous.

They have Katzberg winning silver though so I can’t really take them seriously.

Gracenote does often under predict Canadians so I'm not surprised - but 4 swimming medals would indeed be a flop.

There’s a couple of things that I picked up on from the article. 1. McIntosh likely won’t be competing in either of the 4x100m freestyle relay or the 4x100m medley relay. OK, the 4x100m freestyle relay is possible, but there’s not much of a gap between her and the other four women (MSH, Oleksiak, MacNeil, Ruck) and the coaches would be dumb to wear her out even more for her individual events and the 4x200m freestyle relay. 2. They say LePage is injured and might not be at his best, which sort of makes sense, but why would he put that meme on the last slide of his recent Instagram post then?

I think the article really has no idea what’s going on with him. So they are just guessing.

I wonder who they predicted to win gold? :mumble: All the recent data points to Katzberg being the favourite. Nowicki is the only other person I can think of.

Early July I’ll (hopefully*) be doing a rundown of Canada’s Olympic qualification period! :cheer:

Couple of weeks before the games begin, I’ll also (hopefully*) be doing a Canadian Olympic preview, including listing all the various medal chances, and making predictions of my own.

* Might not have enough time, with all the sporting events I watch, and all of the other stuff I do but we’ll see.

Just started the Canadian Olympic qualification overview earlier today. :yesShould be out on this thread anywhere from Thursday to Saturday, potentially earlier/later though (really depends on how fast I can get it done)

Medal overview should be out by at least July 21, but again could be out earlier/later (at the very least July 23)

I’m curious. Who are your picks for Canada’s opening ceremony flag bearers at the Olympics? All athletes that compete the next day are pretty much ruled out (ex McIntosh, Oleksiak, and especially SGA as their first match is hundreds of miles away) and of course there’s some that aren’t even in the Olympic village.

For the women, I think it’ll be Ellie Black. Not sure about the men, maybe one of our judoka or volleyball players?

I thought it would be Maude Charron till I remembered she was the flag bearer at the Commonwealth Games.

Good question.

After Tokyo I was thinking Oleksiak and De Grasse. As we tend to give legends the honour at the Opening, and being our most decorated Summer Olympians of each gender, and probably the last game for each.

But with Oleksiak barely making the team, and not even sure if De Grasse will be there yet. Some alternatives, Maggie MacNeil, Kylie Masse, Jessie Fleming, Ellie Black for the ladies... and Evan Dunfee, Damian Warner, Nick Hoag or SGA for the men. We don't have a lot of guys outside track who quite qualify as legendary currently after thinking about it

Dunfee, DeGrasse, and Warner likely won’t be in the Olympic village until later on. Oleksiak and MacNeil will both compete the day after (and with a late opening ceremony might choose to skip it in order to prepare), Liendo, McIntosh, and SGA hundreds of miles away in Lille. Fleming and Black are options for the women, but not sure who they’d go with for the men. Hoag is a solid pick, maybe Margelidon/Gauthier Drapeau will be considered as well?

    • It's good that Argentina is starting to get back on track economically. Every year, all of our alpine skiing teams train in August in Argentina in Ushuaia: "Fine del Mundo", as it advertises itself.
    • The relation of Trump with Russia and, more specific, with Putin is probably the most controversial (being generous) thing of the presidence of Trump, i dont believe the same but is clearly that China help democrats in that election, both are playing their games.   In Argentina the society is clearly divided, the people who are in the left side of the politics, peronist and kirchnerism are very against the goverment, propably the only genuine "rigth-wing" goverment since the recovery of the democracy in 1983. For me and the most part who are in the rigth wing: libertarians, nacionalist and conservatives, is probably the best goverment we see to this days, he made in his first year with a very few legislators in the congress some big and good changes:   1) In the economical: the inflation is only 3% per month since a more of 15% in the last months of the last year, Argentina has now fiscal, financial and comercial surplus-   2) Our country didnt have fighter planes and the goverment buy 24  American F16  -   3) He chances the electoral sistem for a "single ballot" sistem, we have an obsolete electoral sistem that doesnt change from the 19 century and specially, the peronist use for make fraud.   4) In my personal case, he really update the tax sistem for smal/medium profesionals and traders.......and that save us to pay the 50% of our earnings to the state.   With a big expectations in the goverment, its better than i thinked before.
    • It could be better, or it could be much worse, for example, if the accusations that he has been accepting large amounts of money from Russia since 2017 are confirmed. Now let Harris win, which will end Trump's political career and I hope that in 4 years the Republicans will put up someone more predictable.     btw, how is this controversial president of Argentina doing?
    • More predictable is not always better, for me the goverment of Biden was one of the worst of the History of USA and i cant imagine what can happen with even a worse version like Harris is.   I hope, for the contrary, Trump be elected and "may be" the things changes for the better in the world.
    • I once read that Harris had never been to Europe before 2020, when she became vice president. On the other hand, her foreign policy will be more predictable, because it will be a continuation of Biden's policies. That is why I hope Harris wins, although the bookmakers are betting on Trump.
    • Harris is totally green on foreign policy. It will probably be a policy 100% led by Biden's people. Harris' main campaign emphasis is on abortion and women's rights.
    • So much for "everybody's laughing at us if we elect Harris"
    • My favorite tennis tournaments of the year (wta/atp finals)
    • was also invited to the special edition of the Bolivarian Games and seems like  is not participating.
