To be fair, it's not like he was ever anywhere near World Tour level...I watch way too much cycling and I only know him because he was the lone Albanian in the peloton :p

I'm guessing he grew to speak some excellent Italian while riding for those teams like Wilier Trestina?

Quite a lot of Albanians take Italian in school. They have close ties to Italy from what I’ve read. Germany too.

I know my geography. I just happened to be reading about the history of Albania last week, and there was a lot of talk about huge Italian influence. Though apparently that influence has been turned to Germany.

It was only a joke :p Albania was frist an italian protectorated and after was invaded by Italy during the fascism, it was so close to Puglia. During the 80' a lot of Albanian come in Italy illegaly with boat, that's why the Albanian population in Italy is so high.

Actually Italy really push the Albanian's request to join in the European Union, besides the ecomomical and political trouble in Albania and, not less important, at lo of Italian in recent years go in Albania for the holliday (it's a little and cheap Greece) and we start to have an italian immigration to Albania :p

I have no idea about the Germany influence in Albania, it sounds a bit strange for me. For sure the Germany's army was in Albania during the WWI and probabily Germany was part of the "council" the year after the indipendendce before the 1st president election... But nothing more I guess.

@Gianlu33 If Albania is cheaper than Greece then they are facing serious problems. I do know that the country is strengthening its ties to Turkey as well since it’s the only other Muslim majority European country.

*which is just a very generic race, as is pretty much every race that wants to make itself look big by putting 'Classic' in the name even though nobody actually sees it as a classic.

    • But it seems to us that Norway wasn't as strong in Lillehammer 1994 as it was later? And not just in women's events. Generally, until 2000, Norway was much weaker in women's biathlon and women`s cross-country skiing. I remember in the 1990s, Italy's biggest rivals, Belmondo and di Centa, were Russia, when Norway somewhere further back and only in the classic style. Bente Martinsen- Skari, this is their first really strong girl in cross country, just about 2000, just like Liv Grete Skielbreid- Pioree in women`s biathlon at similar times.   Do you think, that is there any hope that thanks to the popularity of Haaland and football in general in Norway in recent years, winter sports such as biathlon or cross-country skiing will lose a little bit, becouse that?

    • This suggestion  @Dnl  made some months ago has also been implemented.   In each club, I have added a "Milano Cortina 2026 Qualification Tracker" record which takes the content from the Qualification by Nation tracker of that NOC.   People who see it can not edit the content, but it will be automatically updated once @Matej will update the record, and if you notice any mistake feel free to report it to Matej or in the record itself.   Club's admins can now edit the name of the section into their own language or change the spelling, I have used "Milano Cortina 2026 Qualification Tracker" for all the clubs. To do so, go inside the section, then click on "Manage Club"-"Edit this database Record" and change the name of the section:     By the way, if you are not a club's admin but you would like to edit things inside the club just let me know and I will give you the rights to do so. There can be more "admins" inside the club with the rights to edit and organize the sections, and that's not a role that require time or commitment.   Let's try to make all the clubs active during MiCo and when the LA28 qualifications will start!
