Our men's basketball team played their 1st round qualification matches for FIBA 2019 World Basketball Championship in China. After we lost two matches in 2017.  our team struggled to even qualify to the next phase of qualifications. We managed to pass into the next phase thanks to our NBA players that were available for our team in last two matches against Italy and Romania. Three teams from our group will join to Lithuania, Poland and Hungary in group J and three best teams from that group will qualify for World Cup. Results from first round are carried over to the second round-. Our first match will be played in September in Croatia against Lithuania.

    • I found it interesting that, despite the in-stadium announcer stating that the Russian athletes were from Russia, the streaming commentator never said 'Russia'.  He only referred to the athletes by their name.  I'm sure an intentional, quiet protest.  I'm curious how other commentators may respond to the inclusion of Russia in other sports.   (Didn't know if this should be here or in Politics.)

    • That's still ok. I think that principle can be applied to Oceania and Africa even for these games to avoid same nations like Australia and South Africa get all team sport quotas. But for rest I prefer the model that allows nations to participate in more team sports if they have the merit.
