Netherlands is in the World Championship  final! :yikes:

Lois Abbingh's role has been huge, she spent hours with the coach taking the Russian team (which she knows very well) apart :d Having the Russian coach as her club coach and being in the same club as 8 of the Russian players helped a lot :p

Because Serbia v Hungary will decide who will be at the Olympics (there's no way Russia won't qualify from the group), and playing that match in Belgrade is... a bit unfortunate for us. :d I can't even remember the last time we beat Serbia in Belgrade in a team sport.

women's handball

Spain 6 up against Norway, will we flop it again as we already did against Sweden a few days ago and against France in Rio 2016? I hope not, but let's see!

¡Vamos Guerreras:cheer:

Given the l’Espagne performance, she'll be the world champion Sunday

I don't think so. Spain is competing much better than the expectations according to the real level of our players. Russia destroyed us and we suffered to win against Japan, so the Netherlands should be the clear favorite, as well as Norway was clearly the favorite to win today.

    • There is a transgender volleyball player here in Brazil; there was even a recent controversy (this year) when a city banned her from playing in a certain competition, which ended up in court, ultimately in her favor.   But the situation is much simpler than that; the reason for this decision is because of the two female boxers who won at Paris 2024 (who apparently are not transgender).

    • there were rumors about it for quite a while, but as I wrote, it was never confirmed so, it might well be just some haters throwing out some shit on her 🤷
    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.

    • Athing Mu competed in the USA trials in 2024 and 2025 post the 2023 rule changes. She also won Gold in 2022 and Bronze in 2023.    Jelimo the jury is out. She doesn’t look male like the other two do.
    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
