Biathlon 2022 - 2023 Discussion Thread

Johanna Skottheim similarly fast on skis as always at the beginning of the season. Maybe this time she will not completely break in towards the peak.
Stina Nilsson looks much more confident at the shooting range than before.

Hmm, not so fast.....it works on my Ipad using the Brave Browser, but not on my PC!

to watch any event on NRK, you have to wait for them to upload in the sport section (then, you don't even need a vpn).

any streaming launched from from their TV guide never work, unless you're registered to their website with a Norwegian Bank ID (which is impossible to get, unless you live there), even the basic registration (free) is not enough.

Do you happen to have the link to that quickly accessible? If not, I'll search myself :p

Yeah, that is the secret.  You can watch live & on demand just by starting here

https://tv.nrk.no/serie/skiskyting/

But not from the Direkte page.

Now wondering if the Norwegian National Bank Gold Reserves have the same people working for them.  :roflmao:

That’s a very good result for :GRL - Ukaleq Slettemark 3rd in Sjusjoen.  0 0 & only 15 secs behind.  Some PBs coming this season, I reckon.  Got an interview on Norwegian TV which naturally I could not understand, but she seemed happy.

Is anyone able to find if there are specific qualifying criteria to compete in the Open European Championships?

I can't, but we're not sure about it: they used to simply be part of the IBU Cup in a qualifying sense - if one could compete in the IBU Cup in the trimester of the OECH, the OECH were fine too. Now the question is whether or not that has been changed one or two seasons ago.

Not sure if this really answers your question.  I think the IBU treats this as the IBU Cup World Champs.  If you can qualify for an IBU Cup start, you can qualify for a OECH start.

    • ""The most important thing, in my opinion, is mental preparation" - Maria Vynnyk said this on Thursday after winning the first major gold medal; maybe this is where the secret lies. As you said, Ukrainian girls have always been strong, but not dominant at continental level; my conjecture is that the Russian invasion has made them mentally stronger, giving them that extra edge needed to tilt the balance in the final stages of a competition.

    • Does the CAS have the authority to address from someone who believes the judges made a mistake in a given discipline? Pizzolato's last attempt at Paris 2024, which earned him the bronze medal, was controversial, but what does the CAS have to do with it? Even if the judges made a mistake then, the result won't change and this isn't the only case where someone feels wronged with this in world of sports. Unless, of course, they have some evidence of corruption or something like that
    • If Pizzolato will to return, would it be to the 86 kg category, or the 94 kg category, like Nasar? In 2024, they were both in the 89 kg category, which will no longer be at the Olympics, but in 2021 in Tokyo, Pizzolato won a medal in the 81 kg category.   Of course, it's unclear what's going on with the rape accusations- personally, unfortunately, I don't think he was ever a sweet angel- he was accused of other immoral things also 10 years ago, but gang rape? I find that hard to believe... Besides, Moldova has appealed about his bronze medal from Paris 2024 to the CAS- the verdict was supposed to be in February. Do you know anything about this? Did they have any grounds for this lawsuit at all?
    • Ukraine won 6 gold medals out of 10 in the women's competotion  + 1 silver and 1 bronze. Where do they get these girls from? It's always been a strong country, but they have never dominated like this. I wonder if their training methods would work in another country and if their coaches have any offerts to job from other countries? However, there is a significant decline in women's judo in Ukraine, so maybe they have directed all their resources and money towards wrestling?   In fact, Ukraine dominates Europe as much as Japan does the world- they have the best school in women's wrestling. In 2024, Ukraine only won 1 silver medal at the Paris Olympics? So even domination in Europe doesn't guarantee even 1 gold medal at the Olympics. Although, of course, if Italy for example, can't even win 1 bronze medal at the European Championships, then there's no point in even going to the World Championships...
    • Sablikova started on the road cycling and just almost qualified for Rio 2016. Maybe Lollobrigida would like to join the Italian track team? She has the good character and 2 medals at the Olympics, one in winter and one in summer, would be a legendary achievement, not only in Italy.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martina_Sáblíková
    • One Wiebes is worth more than the all Italian team with Balsamo/Fidanza, etc., that much clear. Even if the Netherlands loses its dominance in the men's sprint, Wiebes will win 2-3 gold medals in other events. Just relax, man.
    • I'm most worried about our women's team in the pursuit – we have a reserve squad, but not advancing to the top 8 is a shame. We recently competed with out 1 team and had not good in 1 round. It doesn't look good. And the Netherlands are already taking Wiebes to the track team and will soon dominate the Madison/Omnium as well. Balsamo and Paternoster haven't made any progress for years and the our women's team at the Olympics has little chance to win a medal. Italy might even win World Championship/European Championship gold in the years after the Olympics, etc., but when the real fight comes, the UK or the USA will always beat us
