Biathlon 2022 - 2023 Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Nordic Combined itself has become kinda unpopular and it's reduced to a second-rate sport these days. However the American NC has totally regressed compared to the 90s and 00s. Is Steamboat Springs still operational? Geraghty-Moats would be better off trying in freestyle skiing. This is where USA finds it's winter sport niche in XXI century outside of alpine skiing.

Kazakhstan seems to be going all in on biathlon.  They are hosting the World Youth/Juniors this season.  They have also announced a new biathlon and nordic skiing training center at Zhetysu.

Expecting a big influx of competitors for the national team, maybe? :mumble:

For those who care, the Alpine Cup Schedule is out.

17-18 December - Ruhpolding - Sprint on both days

7-8 January - Lenzerheide - Sprint, Pursuit

11-12 February - Ridnaun-Val Ridanna - Sprint, Short Individual

17-19 March - Pokjuka - Sprint, Pursuit, Short Individual

France has announced they will not be sending any biathletes to these events this year.  I think they are looking to strengthen their domestic race series.

Let's hope it won't be too confusing with Norway? ;) Not like we should expect the Fialkova family team to keep up with most of the Norwegians anyway?

Mari Eder will be back this season.

Marte Olsbu Roeisland looks to miss the first stop in Finland and really seems to be struggling deciding to continue or not.

Silvert Guttorm Bakken will miss the first three stops due to heart issues.   Looks like Dale will get his spot.

    • I have reported this again and they said it should be fixed now, please let me know if you are still facing issues.
    • more countries added to the list of US ban    you can't travel to USA if you are from : burkina faso , niger , Laos , South sudan , mali , sierra leon ...
    • Yes, but what I mean for Serbia is that everything changed there (unfortunately for us ). 2022 was an unbelievable mess, that's not the case anymore now with just one athlete who has really gone for it and made it, so I'm 99% sure they'll accept it this time.   Who knows though. Plus there's always 1-2 bigger countries here or there who reject something, but it's not gonna be 16 places I'm afraid
    • Doping by Event Type When we look at which events have the most doping cases, a few categories stand out from recent sanction records: Long Distance (3,000m and above): 32% of cases Sprints (400m or less): 24% of cases Jumps: 12% of cases Javelin: 8% of cases Middle Distance (800m–1,500m): 8% of cases Hammer: 8% of cases Steeplechase (3,000m SC): 4% of cases
    • From 2020 to 2025    These three countries alone make up almost two-thirds (61.9%) of all current doping violations in athletics worldwide. It’s worth noting that 199 of World Athletics’ 214 member federations have no athletes on the current ban list. This means the problem is really concentrated in a small number of places. Here’s a look at the top countries: Rank Country Total Violations Percentage Region 1 Kenya 119 24.74% Africa 2 India 108 22.45% Asia 3 Russia 73 15.18% Europe 4 China 26 5.40% Asia 5 Turkey 20 4.16% Europe 6 Italy 18 3.74% Europe 7 South Africa 18 3.74% Africa 8 Ukraine 17 3.53% Europe 9 United States 16 3.33% North America 10 Morocco 15 3.12% Africa
