well there is no women's GR exists as far as I know.

I remember during that IOC session deciding about wrestling's fate, (when IOC dropped wrestling first and made it compete with Squash and few other sports for the last spot) they asked the UWW officials about this and the female representative of UWW said so far women don't show interest in Greco-Roman globally.

At this point I don't even care if they dropped GR completely and held 18-20 Freestyle events or added Belt Wrestling instead.

The matches I watched today looked very boring and I didn't like most GR results anyway. :p

well that's true. Greco is boring. once IOC was very serious about dropping it at 2004 but you should know Greco is more popular in Europe. (I mean apart from Ex soviet countries) and they won't let that happen. and beside it's easier for UWW to give medals to different countries in Greco.

btw UWW is trying to make Greco watchable by changing the rules almost yearly. but they just made it worse. made it more corrupt . more controversial calls. it's mostly in hand of the refs to decide the winner.

impressive result for Kazakhstan B team. winning 2 bronze medals. their A team was less successful in Asian Games.. 60kg wrestler had some helps from the refs and was also lucky but this Shermakhanbet guy was indeed impressive. never heard of him before yesterday. he went through a very tough draw to win this bronze.

I had not heard it yet, but here it is: the commentator going with the classic "my sport is the sport that is known to be for everyone and where everyone has a place!" :cheer:

Wow, that women's 68kg final where Cherkasova just kept turning and turning Larroque around on her legs and the ref did nothing while the French coach was screaming his lungs out to stop the fight due to a very clear injury to Larroque's legs...

Here I am with the questions again :d

What on earth happened in the last minutes here?

Spoiler

It was 6-6 and 'easily' before the clock reaches zero, red takes blue down and gets 2 points and wins....then red protests?! Why on earth is red going for a protest? And they lose it! And then it's minutes of both athletes protesting everything and nobody knowing who the winner is  Blue won, but I have no idea why..

Yes, obviously he tried every single sport before daring to state that...

That remark is high on my list of insanely annoying cliches, although "*Insert sport* has this and that characteristic, which makes it probably the most unpredictable sport of all, anything can happen in *insert sport*!"

    • Does the CAS have the authority to address from someone who believes the judges made a mistake in a given discipline? Pizzolato's last attempt at Paris 2024, which earned him the bronze medal, was controversial, but what does the CAS have to do with it? Even if the judges made a mistake then, the result won't change and this isn't the only case where someone feels wronged with this in world of sports. Unless, of course, they have some evidence of corruption or something like that
    • If Pizzolato will to return, would it be to the 86 kg category, or the 94 kg category, like Nasar? In 2024, they were both in the 89 kg category, which will no longer be at the Olympics, but in 2021 in Tokyo, Pizzolato won a medal in the 81 kg category.   Of course, it's unclear what's going on with the rape accusations- personally, unfortunately, I don't think he was ever a sweet angel- he was accused of other immoral things also 10 years ago, but gang rape? I find that hard to believe... Besides, Moldova has appealed about his bronze medal from Paris 2024 to the CAS- the verdict was supposed to be in February. Do you know anything about this? Did they have any grounds for this lawsuit at all?
    • Ukraine won 6 gold medals out of 10 in the women's competotion  + 1 silver and 1 bronze. Where do they get these girls from? It's always been a strong country, but they have never dominated like this. I wonder if their training methods would work in another country and if their coaches have any offerts to job from other countries? However, there is a significant decline in women's judo in Ukraine, so maybe they have directed all their resources and money towards wrestling?   In fact, Ukraine dominates Europe as much as Japan does the world- they have the best school in women's wrestling. In 2024, Ukraine only won 1 silver medal at the Paris Olympics? So even domination in Europe doesn't guarantee even 1 gold medal at the Olympics. Although, of course, if Italy for example, can't even win 1 bronze medal at the European Championships, then there's no point in even going to the World Championships...
    • Sablikova started on the road cycling and just almost qualified for Rio 2016. Maybe Lollobrigida would like to join the Italian track team? She has the good character and 2 medals at the Olympics, one in winter and one in summer, would be a legendary achievement, not only in Italy.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martina_Sáblíková
    • One Wiebes is worth more than the all Italian team with Balsamo/Fidanza, etc., that much clear. Even if the Netherlands loses its dominance in the men's sprint, Wiebes will win 2-3 gold medals in other events. Just relax, man.
    • I'm most worried about our women's team in the pursuit – we have a reserve squad, but not advancing to the top 8 is a shame. We recently competed with out 1 team and had not good in 1 round. It doesn't look good. And the Netherlands are already taking Wiebes to the track team and will soon dominate the Madison/Omnium as well. Balsamo and Paternoster haven't made any progress for years and the our women's team at the Olympics has little chance to win a medal. Italy might even win World Championship/European Championship gold in the years after the Olympics, etc., but when the real fight comes, the UK or the USA will always beat us
    • Track cycling is one of the few sports where there is no host nation quota, so  will need to work hard to achieve our quotas.  It's not our best sport, but was happy to see Top 10 results in the Elimination Race for Grant Koontz and Emma Jimenez Palos (who is just 18!).
    • Yes, I saw the same thing you did @clemsonbeav (on both accounts) but I agree it looks pretty stock.
