There are 7 south american nations with legit olympic medal chances next year. Would be historic if it happens. Maybe 8 if Uruguay can qualify in football.

Time for Bolivia and Paraguay to step up

A Paraguayan man won this year's South American marathon championships. I'm not sure what are his chances in a global event, but let's hope he can challenge for a top 10 finish.

He was extremely disappointing at the 2019 Pan American Games. Hopefully it was just nerves at his first major event as a medal contender.

When isn’t it :p. I got bored of winning medals at the Pan Am Games after the first week.

I dont think we will break our records for the worlds (14 golds) but we are at 7 already, so will get to at least 10

I don't know what is the deal with Paraguay. They seem to never invest in sports, and they haven't performed well even in football. Bolivia, on the other hand, apparently invests big money (well, as much as they can, at least) in a number of sports. Still, I see no chance for an Olympic medal for Bolivia anytime soon, unfortunately, but they are on the right track. Paraguay is not even close.

I’d say Paraguay is closer personally. They have a decent runner, some decent golfers, some decent tennis players, a decent table tennis athlete, and some decent rowers. Bolivia has race walkers, marathoners, and racquetball players. That’s it. I do agree they are showing improvement though. The continent as a whole is in my opinion.

Well let's think about it.   Mike norman at 400.   Muhammad/McLoughlin at 400 hurdles.   Probably 3 out of the 4 relays.   There is a chance in both shot puts.   Maybe 200 women.   Maybe 400 women but probably not.   110 hurdles no.   100 hurdles maybe but harrison lose in the big finals.

She wasn’t a top-tier athlete in that program anymore. She was at the end of her career. I would personally would rather race against Katie. She’s not as competitive as the other athletes,” he said. “It’s probably really unfair to say and not really where I want to go with this but that’s where we are with that.”   Uhlaender: “If I were Canada, I would be concerned in how this coach is representing the Olympic values for his country,” Uhlaender told Fox News Digital. “He hurt a whole field of athletes, all with dreams, and this sends the message that they don’t matter unless they are number one. All athletes matter, and we all deserve to compete fairly, with integrity, and respect. He did not respect anyone in that field. “This is not about my resume or how good the athletes were in the race. This is about the fact that he intentionally manipulated the competition to hurt myself and 13 other countries because he felt it necessary to eliminate all possibility. That is against the spirit of sport and not what the Olympic movement represents.”   Isn't it great when other people's dirty laundry is aired?  /sarcasm     (I was a little surprised to see NPR pick this up, but per this article, Uhlaender preemptively recorded the phone call after receiving a text from Cecchini that said he had 'bad news' for her.)
    • Idea (that I don't want to mess with right now, but someone else can steal the idea): Could feed the docs from LA28 + Paris 2024 through AI and see what it says.  (Would just take downloading them, perhaps merging them for ease of upload, and passing it through.)
    • If you have time would love to see a sport by sport overview of the changes/new sports
    • Slowly going through the documents.   Looks like canoe slalom qualifiers will be a bit different. More kayak cross quotas which will let nations to essentially qualify two kayakers.
    • How about we choose either Rome or Milano  I hate this timeline we have entered of multiple host cities / countries. The football World Cup became ludicrous, we don't need the Olympics to join them. At least not more than they already are.
