I thought Canada beat Korea, Britain and USA

They did, but Japan losing means they tie with them, too, and Canada lost to Japan.  So because all four teams beat each other at some point, it comes down to draws to the buttons over the week and Team Jones is dead last in that category.

It is frustrating that Canada beat 3/4 of the other teams they're tied with but will not make it in.

I fail to understand who decided the draw shot challenge score was a worthy tiebreaker.

Curling Canada needs to implement this rule too. Canadian teams are always among the worst at it, and they need more practice in situations where the DCS matters.

Frankly curling Canada also needs to set up the stones the same way the WCF does, too.

In better news a 20 year old Alexa Scott is sitting 4th and the ice maintenance break in the 1000m in Speed Skating. Great to know she did well despite being selected as an alt for the team pursuit.

    • Strange new innovation in the Team Time Trial in the Paris-Nice*   Instead of the whole team, or most of the team crossing the line together and the time being calculated on rider four or five, now the time is calculated on the second man, so the teams splits up at some agreed point just before the finish, and only the two fastest (obviously one necessarily being your superstar) cross the line together, and the rest can roll in when they wish.  Presumably the idea is to make the whole thing less predictable, whereas in previous years it was always just two or three of the mega teams who really took the whole thing seriously.  Don't know if this is going to be general now, or just confined to this race, or to ASO races or whatever.      *Of course, someone is going to come along and say they've been doing it this way for years, and I've just been too drunk to pay attention.
    • Soviet Union & China were at odds since Stalin refused to give nuclear weapons to Mao and worsened after Khruschev denounced Stalin alltogether. Yes, these countries have the same goal but chose a different path to reach it. And currently China's methods are proving more successful.   There's no real 5D chess with Trump, he usually means what he says. It's just most politicians actually don't say what they mean and now everyone is trying to uncover layers to his words when in fact there's nothing to uncover. If Trump says China is #1 'enemy' then - from purely business perspective - this is how he views his priorities.
