Men's Road Cycling UCI La Vuelta Ciclista a España 2018

Recommended Posts

Would anybody be interested in playing the pick'em game I described during the Tour de France (but was too late to start), 'invented' by someone on a Dutch forum? :)

It's easy, you keep track of your own score (openly, so people will notice if you cheat :p) and simply, why not?

Nibali going only to get some practice before the Worlds. I wouldn't say another wasted year , but his window for another GT is closing.   I'm really interested if Sagan can muscle another points jersey, if he is serious in this Vuelta.

That's something rather standard for people to do :p

How dare you, there are people that actually consider the Vuelta a very important race. And those spaniards shall not be named. :p

I am not sure Peter has ambitions to finish the whole Vuelta.

Yes hello, you're talking to one :d

It's just a perfect preparation for the Worlds, especially when the Worlds is on an amazing course like in and around Innsbruck now, one of the best courses in many years :hearts:

:POL Michał Kwiatkowski is finally going to be Team Sky's leader. I wonder how he'll perform. It can be another breakthrough in his career.

I am unashamed, at getting nothing done.

He should be able to snatch a stage win or two with breakaways in some 'medium' stages (as in, mostly hilly).

    • Yes agreed, resetting it would help make it more dramatic as no one would be running away with it. We could also set it that there is a small reward for ranking higher after each round… maybe they start the next round with a “head start” so they bring a few points into the next round? But starting from scratch each round might be cleaner
    • I like the concept a lot. My only worry would be that the nations doing the best individually would also end up at the top here as teams are only made up of pairs. Whereas in a bigger team it gives the nations not doing so well individually to have another chance if they are lucky enough to be placed in a good team. Any way we can balance it?
    • I thought about accumulating, but for higher drama it may be reset like in cycling track elimination races

    • Nice for them, but also kind of too bad they pick the exact same two as last time. Would have been nice to see Regina Martinez for example (although I'm not sure that would have been logistically possible, depending on how they're going to do the flag bearer thing in the first place).

    • For me 20 medals will be good. And if more there are? Super. However, I prefer not to get my hopes up too much, so as not to be disappointed later.
    • If you're still taking suggestions, I tought the following:   Team Madison format.   17 teams of 2 "riders", randomly drawn. Teams can be named for famous "endurance" track cyclists. 4 intermediate "sprints", one after a voting block, in which the top 8 teams will score according to this formula: (10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1). The order in which team score for a sprint are determined by the total number of "medals" won by both members of the team during the block. Ranking will be sorted according to the number of gold medals, then silver, then bronze. If there's two or more teams with same number of points, the medals of best individual performer of each team will be considered to break the tie. If the tie remains, then team's total points during the block will be used to break it. If the team fails to receive a single medal during each block, it will be considered to "lose lap" and 20 points will be substracted from their score. If the team fails to score at least 1 point during each block, it will be an automatic DNF for the team. If both members of the team get a medal from a single jury, it will be considered to "gain lap" and 20 points will be added to their score. A team can only win an additional lap per voting block. After the 4 intermediate, a "final" sprint will be recorded, in which points will be doubled (20, 16, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4 & 2). Ranking for the final sprint will take into account the total medals won during the event.   What do you think?
