Ons Jabeur pulled out of AO due to injury suffered in Sydney last week. That's actually good news for the Greek tennis fans since she was in Sakkari's section IIRC.

Yeah, I noticed she retired in some of her last tournaments and also had Covid recently so I'm not too surprised. Sakkari has a good draw to make the QF, and now it's even better.

Unfortunately Maria did not play well today in her first round match, so she will need to improve in order to capitalise on this draw. One step at a time though...

Australia has approved the Sputnik vaccine - four weeks after refusing a visa to Natalia Vikhlyantseva who was vaccinated with it and obviously had to miss AO. Australian politics is a complete joke and the hits keep on coming.

Not so usual thing but 3 of the 5 Slovaks won their 1st round. Do not remember the last time this happened in a GS. Even more fun is that all 3 wins came in one day (today) after yesterday 2 early defeats. so quite worth to write a sentence or two about this here..:yes

Alex Molčan, Norbert Gombos and Kristína Kučová in 2nd round

in other hand both Košice born chicks, Kaja Schmiedlová and Viki Kužmová already out after the 1st round
