Water Polo 2022 - 2024 Discussion Thread

Now it's the Men's Youth World Championships. Unfortunately our boys lost 9-8 to Spain today in the quarterfinals. The referees were tragic I must say...

 

The big surprise is that  won 12-7 against  to make the semifinals 

I always wondered why the Dutch men were not a top team in water polo while their women are, maybe this new generation is really good though?! We beat them only 12-11 in the group stage. I was surprised it was so close but I guess the Dutch really are good

Well, I was wondering that too. I asked a friend from the waterpolo community in the Netherlands and he told me it's way too early to say there is a really good new generation. But he also said there are more talents than in average years. So we have to wait. but there is a little hope for Dutch men's waterpolo :-).

We tend to have better national teams on the womens side than the mens side in most team sports: waterpolo, volleyball, handball and field hockey. I guess one factor is also in the general sense a larger share of the boys athletic talent is concentrated in football.

Also the dutch women ice hockey team is miles ahead of the men team

Sven Kramer and Naomi van As (former field hockey star) recently had their second kid, so it's a matter of time for our Ice Hockey teams!

 

But we're getting really offtopic here

I hope our waterpolo U19 boys will have a good development!

U16 World Championships:

 

 beat  in both finals to win gold for boys and girls

 

Our national teams won 6 medals in 2021 and so far 5 in 2022. None of them gold...

Those World Championships were probably first ever (in any age level) where  take part and even we win several matches and finished on 17th place out of 25 teams! Not that bad result!

We beat Croatia 8-7 to make the semifinals of the Men's U19 European Championships. We will now play Spain.

 

After 12 medals from our national teams, but none of them gold, in the last two years, maybe this time we will finally win gold? Lucky number 13?!
