:ESP wins 2-1 after extra time. Very much deserved but their striking has to improve if they want to reach the final.

:NED did nothing for 90 mins except a voided penalty call and the vd Gragt strike that forced extra time. Beerensteyn rallies is all they had and that was very predictable.

Spain dominated the 1st half, Netherlands got away lucky with 0-0 there. From then on, it was more or less equal (with the Netherlands blowing away Spain for a bit after the 1-0), but my lord the amount of chances missed by Beerensteyn....absolutely unbelievable  (that's her own chances, not even counting the many, many times she went for it herself when a teammate was free)

It even led directly to the 2-1 in the end.

And same thing as NED - ARG in the World Cup last year: NED came back (from 2-0 there), had ARG absolutely on it's knees and ready to be knocked out with a tiny punch, but then NED went back to the way they played that led to being 2-0 behind in the first place

Now after 1-1 today, which came after a short period of massive domination, they went back to the lackluster way they played before that...at least it never really went back to the one-sided 1st half, but still.

Kinda weird match. Spain was very dominant in the first ~60 minutes, but then the Dutch kinda get the better of it, without taking much chances. Then they just give away a silly penalty, but they come back when you do not expect it. But they actually are pretty good when they went 1-0 behind.

Spain never was as dominant as in those first 60 minutes though, but I think the better team won nonetheless.

I don't see Spain getting thrashed by Japan again. Hope they can win it all really. But again, against a tough opponent there are just too much troubles.

It is weird though that the chance even exists of having a group match repeat in the semi's instead of in the final :p

If Nigeria won shoot off they could have faced favourites Australia in semis in repeat of group game.

Yes, the fact that this chance even exists is weird. Group games should not be possible to be repeated until the final.

Ah sure, Beerensteyn has been toxic so now everyone American feels like it is their turn to be toxic against all that's Dutch on the great platform 'X'.

Sure, it wasn't smart of Beerensteyn to say stuff like that (although I feel like she kinda has a point that US media and sportsmen/women have the tendency to look at finals way before they have reached them and the US ), but it is a bit sad to use it as an excuse to be toxic against everything Dutch. It is a bit of just desserts foor Beerensteyn who not exactly performed great, however. Oh well, 'X' is such a great place to be anyway.

I hope that with Gismondi will be different, especially since she was already a great talent in her junior years. The problem in Italy is that for the past 15 years, aside from Pellegrino, there has been a miss of stability in other athletes: there are some booms of excellent form, but later they disappear. I also worry that funding for cross-country skiing will be cut after the Cortina Olympics.
