no comments for the two Quarterfinals?

disaster for Greece...

waiting for today's (the afternoon one, of course)...

by the way, Germany was really impressive...and not only last night...

they have a plan, they execute well and yesterday they also had an unreal shooting percentage from the arch...

Spain isn't convincing at all so far, but somehow they always manage to escape any trouble...

winning culture, I guess...it's the 11th consecutive time they make the top 4 at the Europeans (and 9 of the last 10 times they also got a medal, they were 4th only in 2005)...:yikes:

fun fact, last time they missed out on the semifinals was in 1997, when Eurobasket was played in...Spain! (finals in Barcelona, Jugoslavija winning gold against Italy, coached at the time by Ettore Messina)...

yeah, but they not always play according to their characteristics...more than once, I saw them messin'it up at the first trouble (like they did against Italy in Tokyo last year, for instance)...

yesterday they were really focused and inspired (considering they're also missing some very strong players)...

I was a bit disappointed by Greece, though...

after they played so well in Milan in the group stages, they just went a level below in Berlin (they already struggled more than expected in the round of 16)...

    • so, the Swiss reigning champions, who saved their ass in the last match of the RS, now are almost safe in the semis once again...   very impressive performance also by RB Salzburg, I didn't expect them to make such a good run, even if the 2nd leg match won't be easy at all and they're all but safe in the final four
    • Knockout Stage   Quarterfinals, 1st Leg (Part I) Tuesday 03.12.2024 - Results   Sparta Prague (CZE) - Växjö Lakers (SWE)  1-2 (0-0, 1-1, 0-1) Red Bull Salzburg (AUT) - Färjestad Karlstad (SWE)  3-1 (1-1, 2-0, 0-0) Genève-Servette (SUI) - Pinguins Bremerhaven (GER)  4-0 (2-0, 1-0, 1-0)
    • I guess 65, 79, 88, 110, 110+ will be the Olympic classes for 2028 (I don't think IOC would allow them to increase the number of gold medals available at the Games yet...most likely they want to to stay with the current lineup and see how it goes in the next Olympic cycle in terms of doping scandals before taking any decision)  or maybe they will keep those weights for the "regular activity" and later on they will set 5 different weight classes only good for Olympic purposes, with dedicated tournaments when it's time for the OQ (like Taekwondo, more or less)  but it's just my personal speculation, I have no infos from the inside
    • Today the funniest tournament of the season, the Shoot Out, will starts
    • Luckily for us, it happened exactly as we thought. Unfortunately, the Serbian players had to play the entire match, the difference in value between the starters and the reserves being quite large, and thus at the end of the match their fatigue was evident.
    • if they limit the number of qualified athletes to 8 per category that will not exceed the allocated quota (marginally). I know 8 athletes only is a bit harsh but will be more competitive.
    • Thank you for putting this together, it was fun to go through. From your keyboard to God's ears on Canada's short track team here (I believe you have us at 4-1-1, which is realistic if everything works out).   Leaving us off the podium in speed skating women's pursuit was interesting.   Three medals of any colour in curling would be celebrated at this point after two disasterous cycles.   In hockey, I'll always take our girls over the Americans (was "lucky" enough to see them lose in 2018 in person, though. Only time in 6 Games. Haha...hahahahaha...ha).    For the men, I said above unless Canada finds a goaltender I'm not too optimistic. USA is just too well rounded. But lots can happen by then, and in a one game elimination tournament.
    • big decision by IWF   new weight categories, 8 for men and 8 for women from June 2025   Men 60kg, 65kg, 71kg, 79kg, 88kg, 98kg, 110kg, +110kg Women 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 77kg, 86kg, +86kg   and this means all World records will be erased AGAIN !    https://iwf.sport/2024/12/03/iwf-executive-board-meeting-in-manama-brn-december-2-3-main-decisions/   I think that was a good decision, 10 weights was too much. but erasing the current World Records was the down side of this decision.   but does this mean they have some agreements with IOC to have all these weights at the Olympics ? that looks unlikely though  but looking at the numbers and the gap between weights none of them look like a "non-Olympic weight" at least that's what IWF thinks.
