and in doubles Mladenovic would be associated with Garcia and Burel bets the other pair How is it possible to have Mladenovic in doubles??

Mladenovic is ranked 55 in doubles, Garcia is 22 in singles, so their combined ranking is 77 and definitely enough to make it in women's doubles assuming they team up together (which is very likely, and they would be one of France's best chances for a medal in tennis).

Men's doubles:

29 teams are certain if they enter.

2 for: :AUS :ITA :FRA :GER :CRO :USA :RUS :ESP :ARG (18 total)

1 for: :POL :IND :CHI :KAZ :GBR :CZE :BEL (25 total)

1 for :SRB only if Djokovic plays (with one of Djere, Kecmanovic, Lajovic only). Without Djokovic, Djere/Kecmanovic can be one of the first alternates with a combined live ranking of 102.

1 for :NZL assuming Daniell uses his protected ranking

1 for :CAN only if the team is Auger-Aliassime/Shapovalov, with Shapovalov using protected ranking

1 for sure for :NED assuming it is Koolhof/Rojer, probably a second team too (see below)

So that's 29 teams, which means the last 3 and first alternates are below:

:NED Griekspoor/Haase (78)

:AUT Erler/Miedler (78 - I'm not sure if singles or doubles rankings have priority so they might be above the Dutch?)

:GBR Draper/Norrie (79)

-------------------------------------------------

:BRA Matos/Melo (83)

:MEX Gonzalez/Reyes Varela (91)

:HUN Fucsovics/Marozsan (97)

:GRE Tsitsipas/Tsitsipas (102)

Of course these are subject to change based on results from Roland Garros and challenger tournaments this week. For example, the Tsitsipas brothers would move up to 82 with a win tomorrow.

excuse me for bothering you but what would be the possible French male and female doubles? THANKS

You are not bothering me. I don't know what the combinations would be but France has many options for the men which would all qualify, so they will surely have two teams.

For the women, Garcia/Mladenovic should be one and the other will be Burel with either Gracheva or Parry, and probably Burel/Parry as Parry is ranked higher and they would be one of the last teams to make the cut, with Gracheva there's more of a risk they won't make it.

Okay, thank you. Was not sure how Navone was eligible and was trying to figure out what effect it would have if he wasn't.

Navone doesn't meet the Davis Cup Criteria, which is:

The player must have fulfilled the minimum participation requirement in the ITF Davis Cup or ITF Billie Jean King Cup Competitions during the Olympic Cycle, by being:

(a) part of the final nominated Davis Cup or Billie Jean King Cup team, and present at the tie/event (National Representation) on a minimum of two (2) occasions during the Olympic Cycle, provided that one of those occasions is in either 2023 or 2024.

But, there are exemptions for that rule, and Navone fulfilled two of them:

b) Newcomer to Davis Cup or Billie Jean King Cup Competition: A player

only reaches a ranking level sufficient for Davis Cup or Billie Jean King Cup selection by his/her National Association during the latter part of

the Olympic Cycle.

(c) Strength of Nation: A National Association has a large number of

highly-ranked players resulting in competition for selection, which

limits a player’s opportunities to participate in Davis Cup or Billie Jean

King Cup.

That's basically the reason why he can qualify, the same happen with italian Darderi

Well, France has a really tough internal battle to pick their n°1 doubles team, because they have 2 very good teams but they have to pick one. For one side, it has Doumbia and Reboul, the 33 and 34 in the Doubles Ranking, which are a good couple, used to playing on clay and definitily a good contender for a medal, knowing that they are playing together for a long time now, but on the other side you have the n°11 in the world, Roger-Vasselin, which is almost a top 10, but he plays with mexican Santiago Gonzalez, so in the olympics he will have to play with his former partner Nicolas Mahut, ranked 52 in the world. So, its really a difficult choice.

The 2nd Doubles Team will be one integrated between 2 of the 4 singles players, so it can be anyone, and probably they are gonna lose in the first round.

Humbert only has 7 doubles matches between start of 2023 and today, and he only won one (with Shelton in Brisbane), and of the 6 losses 5 were in straight sets.

The Monfils case is worst, because he only has 5 matches between 2020-2024, 1 win and 1 loss in Tokyo Olympics with Chardy, 1 win and 1 loss with Bonzi in Montreal 2022 and a loss with Hurkacz in last year Laver Cup.

Then, Arthur Fils, 7 matches in 2023 (mostly with Luca Van Assche), only one win (in Wimbledon against the Tsitsipas brothers) and then all losses. Only one match this year, also with Van Assche, a loss in the Barcelona Qualy (6-2 6-1).

And finally, Moutet, only one match between 2020-2024, that it was in Wimbledon 2023 with Lestienne, a straight sets loss.

Giovanni Mpetsi Perricard its a better option if he ends up getting into the France Singles Team, because he usually plays doubles in the season, and he doesn't have bad results (Final in Lille Challenger in February 2024 and a M25 title in 2022). Same with Arthur Rinderknech (he won the title of the Quimper Challenger at the start of the year with Guinard)

Meanwhile :CRO now in danger of not having two teams, as Dodig fell out of the top 10 (ironically due to losing to the Tsitsipas brothers but it became official today now that Vavassori made SF and passed him). Cilic hasn't played since February so if he isn't back by then, the best second CRO team would be Coric/Dodig with a combined live ranking of 98...

If :GRE Tsitsipas/Tsitsipas win their quarterfinal, their combined ranking will increase to 68 and they will definitely qualify. Then :GBR Draper/Norrie will still have 79 because they are qualifying based on their singles rankings, and they can't drop any more than that and would theoretically be the first alternates. Haase, Erler, and Miedler can drop in the rankings if the Greeks make the final in Paris, and the Austrians also if Galloway wins the doubles title at the Surbiton Challenger this week (he is currently in the quarterfinals). If either of those happen following a GRE win tomorrow, then GBR 2 will be safe and the last spot will be between AUT and NED 2.

Of course, probably there will be some withdrawals, especially considering the status of Cilic, Shapovalov (does he even want to play the Olympics on clay?), Daniell, and even Djokovic now which would remove Serbia. So probably in the end all of GRE, GBR 2, NED 2, and AUT will get in, and we will see about BRA, MEX, HUN, and possibly SRB (if no Djokovic) and CRO 2 (if no Cilic).

Altmaier is the only left. If he reaches SF, he passes Marterer for the fourth german place, and i have to make the maths really but i think he needs a final to pass Mensik. Anyways, if Altmaier losses tomorrow or on friday, Mensik qualifies to Paris

And for mixed doubles, I'm not sure how it works because I think they sign up at the Olympics and use the rankings for that week if I remember correctly, but using this week's live rankings and the protected rankings for some players, I believe we would have this if everyone plays (which we know won't happen because some might skip mixed doubles) :

1. :USA Gauff/Ram (8)

2. :POL Swiatek/Hurkacz (9)

T3. :GER Siegemund/Zverev (10)

T3. :AUS Perez/Ebden(10)

5. :ITA Paolini/Sinner (11)

6. :RUS Zvonareva/Medvedev (12)

7. :USA Pegula/Fritz (18)

8. :GRE Sakkari/Tsitsipas (19)

T9. :NED Schuurs/Koolhof (20)

T9. :ESP Bucsa/Granollers (20)

T9. :RUS Kasatkina/Rublev (20)

12. :KAZ Rybakina/Bublik (21)

13. :ESP Sorribes Tormo/Nadal (23)

14. :CAN Dabrowski/Auger-Aliassime (24)

15. :ITA Errani/Vavassori (25)

16-Host. :FRA Garcia/Roger-Vasselin (38*)

----------------------------------------------------

ALT 1. :NZL Routliffe/Venus (29)

ALT T2. :BEL Mertens/Gille or Vliegen - they have the same ranking (30)

ALT T2. :CZE Vondrousova/Lehecka (30)

ALT 4. :GBR Boulter/Salisbury (35)

ALT 5. :CZE Siniakova/Machac (40)

ALT 6. :BRA Stefani/Melo (49)

ALT 7. :CRO Vekic/Dodig (50)

ALT8. :CHN Zheng/Zhang (51)

    • Alpine snowboard is by far the most shown discipline on Eurosport/Discovery in Europe. If it's not clashing with a bunch of other things, they are showing the WC starts live.   Snowboard cross would be the next in line and they are showing starts, but they are fewer and if it's head to head with alpine, alpine will get the advantage.   Halfpipe is occasionally shown and it's usually only some of the NA rounds, when it's the evening here and all other winter sports stuff is over. And they are not showing snooker, golf, cycling etc.    Big Air / Slopestyle is practically non-existent, never shown, unless it's some weird BA in November in the middle of nothing.   And it's the same picture in the Freestyle skiing. Ski cross is the most shown and probably has more races televised, than all other disciplines combined. Halfpipe is so-so from the rest, with BA & Slopestyle non-existent again. Moguls & Aerials are dead, at least i can't remember Eurosport showing their WC events on TV.   This just shows the complete division between Europe and North America. I don't think there is a single European country which prefers airing (or training) the technical disciplines than the racing ones. Which is the complete opposite than what it has been in NA.
    • Team Event     I have come up with a quick team competition to allow me time to organise it in the short amount of time I have between now and the Grand Final. I will come up with some names for each team in the coming day (hopefully ).     Nations will be divided into 10 teams of 3 and 1 team of 4, making 11 teams in total. For the team of 4, one of those nations will sit on the bench for each of the 4 sessions meaning only the scores of the other 3 nations of that team will count towards the team competition for that particular session. (Canada will sit on the bench in session 1, Denmark will sit on the bench in session 2, China in session 3 and Mexico in session 4).   Teams were assigned based on voting position to help distribute when each team has a voting member as evenly as possible between each session.   The team event will be an elimination-based event where the scores of the team members will be accumulated for that session or quarter and the teams with the lowest combined score will be eliminated and play no further part.   Scores will be reset to zero after each quarter but in the event of a tie-break, the team with the highest ranking in the previous session will win the tie-breaker.   In the event of a tie in the first round, all teams involved in the tie will be advanced to the next round.   See details below about how many teams will be eliminated after each quarter     1st Quarter: 11 teams Top 9 teams advance to next round   2nd Quarter: 9 teams Top 7 teams advance to next round   3rd Quarter: 7 teams Top 5 teams advance to Final   4th Quarter: 5 teams No elimination         Q1 Pts Q2 Pts Q3 Pts Q4 Pts 1  Team 1 0  0  0  0  2  Team 2 0  0  0  0  3  Team 3 0  0  0  0  4  Team 4 0  0  0  0  5  Team 5 0  0  0  0  6  Team 6 0  0  0  0  7  Team 7 0  0  0  0  8  Team 8 0  0  0  0  9  Team 9 0  0  0  0  10  Team 10 0  0  0  0  11  Team 11 0  0  0  0
    • OK, won't spoil the outcome yet.    The most interesting relay in who knows how long and it was after lunch on a working day... It's idiotic that the Germans don't have the weekday starts in the evening, when people are OFF WORK. If i was advertising i'd be fuming it's not at least at 18-19:00...
    • Took me 2 tries, but I got through the 2nd time around
    • One of the best-ever Women's Relays this afternoon in Ruhpolding.  Unfortunately stuck away on a midweek afternoon so not many people will have seen it.  Must watch though.  No spoilers yet!
    • The IOC is very TV ratings and ticket sale focused when it comes to sports to add / drop, seemingly. Which is probably not the best metric to use, but it does explain why alpine snowboarding is in more trouble than something like aerials or ski half-pipe (which should probably be closer to the chopping block if we go by competitive depth).
    • Thursday January 15th, 2026 - Round-Robin Day 3 Schedule (GMT +1)   13:00   Japan vs France 16:30   Denmark vs Norway 20:00   Italy vs Germany
    • all races are shown on public tv in places like Italy, Austria and streamed all around the Continent on the Discovery+/HBO Max popularity, instead, is another story... except maybe in Austria, tv ratings are marginal and the athletes are basically unknown, like in all the non-mainstream sports (which means, here in Italy, football, ferrari and -the newcomer in the last few years- Sinner, who replaced Valentino Rossi in this very poor list)   ps at least, there are quite a few kids practicing the sport in our mountain villages
    • Finally got in as well after about an hour-ish in line.
    • Nobody in the US watches it is the problem the IOC has. That and it's kinda dead as a grassroots sport - I ski and I've only seen one Alpine board in my entire life. It was displayed in a store as a curiosity and it was *old*. Much easier to participate in snowboardcross at a recrational level.   I don't think it should be removed, but Alpine snowboarding has a perception problem as a dead sport, at least outside of Europe (I don't have a good sense of how often Alpine snowboarding is shown on TV in Europe and how popular those broadcasts are).
