I loathe, loathe qualification systems where having more athletes than you're looking to qualify is an advantage.

 

Cycling suffers from this too in having the nation ranking be used to qualify individuals.

Why are there teams (nations) which are already qualified to Olympics?

All nations can grab a 2nd quota through their respective continental Olympic Qualifiers (assuming they’ve already qualified one pairing through the Olympic Rankings)

 

Only rule is you can’t use pairings that have already qualified for Paris, otherwise you’ll probably be seeing Mol/Sørum for and Ehlers/Wickler for

Well, this one is for Czech Republic. Both Dutch teams didn't meet the national criteria, so I'm wondering why these teams participate in this Nations Cup final. NOC*NSF aks at least a top 5-finish at a Elite16-tournament. Both teams (Bröring/van Driel and Piersma/Bekhuis) are no longer able to meet that requirement. On both Elite16-tournament to come they are not even on the entrylist.

I thought that the South American OQT were next week but i just found out that i was wrong, because the Men´s tournament its next week but the Women´s tournament is this week! 

 

In the QuarterFinals yesterday,  Argentina and  Paraguay advanced directly to the semifinals. The rest of the QF were between 4 teams.

 

-  Ecuador defeated  Chile by 3 games to 1.

-  Peru defeated  Uruguay by 3 games to 1

 

Semifinals Today:

 

-  Argentina defeated  Ecuador by 3 games to 0

-  Paraguay defeated  Peru by 3 games to 1

yeah, its a best of 5 tournament. In the first 2 matches, the n°1 duos of each country plays against the n°2 of the other, and in the final 2 matches, its 1vs1 and 2vs2. In case of a 2-2 tie, the n°1 duos of each country play a golden set to 15 points to define the winner.

Interesting how different confederation have different formats. NORCECA will be using one team per country.
