Football: Rentistas won the Torneo Apertura for the first time ever. Uruguay lost versus Ecuardo, or accoring to most people they lost to the VAR.

 

Mototsport: Santiago Urrutia has had mixed results in FIA WTCR.

 

Boxing: Chris Namús lost versus Ema Kozin for the WBC interim title, she claims she won most rounds.

 

Rugby: Uruguay XV narrowly defeated Brazil XV.

 

Athletics: Nicolás Cuestas and Lorena Sosa competed at the Half Maraton World Championship. He clocked 1:04'00, half a minute above his personal best. She clocked 1:22'38, one minute above her personal best.

  • Swimming: Martín Melconian, Enzo Martínez.
  • Athletics: María Pía Fernández, Emiliano Lasa, Lorena Aires.
  • Beach volley: Marco Cairús, Hans Hannibal.
  • Judo: David Prestes.
  • Taekwondo: Federico González.
  • Karate: Maximiliano Larrosa.
  • Table tennis: María Pía Lorenzotti.

Julio César Sánchez Padilla died at age 88.

 

He was an international basketball referee, appearing at the 1960 and 1964 Olympics.

 

Then he produced and led the sports talk show Estadio Uno on the state TV broadcaster... for 47 years!!! And it was filmed in his own house.

 

He also owned a national bus company and was deputy member of parliament.

In swimming, 16-year-old Micaela Sierra set new national records, with 1'12.73 at 100 m breaststroke, and 2'35.06 at 200 m breaststroke.

 

Back in February, Nicole Frank also set national records, with 2'20.56 in 200 m medley, and 5'08.67 in 400 m medley.

 

Inés Remersaro announced she will retire after this season.

    • Yes, but Geiger and Wellinger have both achieved some success in major events, while Paschke hasn't. Geiger certainly has a better chance in Cortina than Paschke at now, but it has to be the his decision to withdraw and give a chance to his team- mate. Otherwise, it wouldn't be fair to him. I don't think Horngacher will force him to withdraw.

    • Promoting bad swimmers AND better shooters over better runners (overall less favorable for endurance value) which I think is supposed to help attract new athletes - endurance is usually the biggest turn-off.
