The :SVK  World Championships 2019 have another record btw, 412 goals scored during this tournament is the higher number of goals in all history of WCh top divisions

thanks mainly to Italy, who very generously gave up almost 50 goals only by themselves...:facepalm:

2019 WCh AWARDS

Stone named MVP

12226823_web1_Slovakia-Ice-Hockey-Worlds

Mark Stone was named tournament MVP after his string of clutch goals helped Canada to the World Championship final in Bratislava.

Stone, 27, was back for his second Worlds after collecting a gold medal in Moscow in 2016, and he produced 14 (8+6) points on his way to silver this time around. Along the way, he potted the last-gasp winner in a wild 6-5 victory over Slovakia, grabbed the overtime winner to settle the quarter-final against Switzerland and opened the scoring in the semi-final success against the Czech Republic.

The Golden Knights man was also selected in the media’s All-Star team, forming a potent forward line alongside Sweden’s William Nylander and Jakub Voracek of the Czech Republic. Nylander, who was MVP two years ago in Cologne, led the tournament scoring here with 18 (5+13) points in eight games as the Tre Kronor reached the quarter-final. Voracek was close behind with 16 (4+12) as the Czechs came within a shoot-out of ending a medal drought that dates back to 2012.

Another Czech, defenceman Filip Hronek, also made the select roster alongside Finland’s Mikko Lehtonen. Hronek was the most productive blue liner, with 11 (3+8) points, while Lehtonen was a key figure in the Finnish team that silenced Russia’s potent offence in a 1-0 semi-final victory and battled its way to gold for the third time in its history.

Russia’s Andrei Vasilevski was the top goalie, stopping 94.58% of the shots he faced for a GAA of 1.6. Vasilevski also had two shut-outs, and produced a stellar 48-save performance in the bronze-medal game against the Czechs.

The tournament directorate selected its top three players, with Vasilevski and Hronek getting the nominations for goalie and defenceman. For Vasilevski, it’s the second time in three seasons he has collected that accolade. The best forward prize went to Russia’s Nikita Kucherov, who came off a superb season in the NHL to impress here in Slovakia. He had 16 (6+10) points to help Russia to bronze and formed a dynamic partnership with Nikita Gusev, his one-time team-mate as a schoolboy.

Individual awards selected by the Tournament Directorate:

Best goaltender: Andrei Vasilevski  :RUS
Best defenceman: Filip Hronek  :CZE
Best forward: Nikita Kucherov  :RUS

Most valuable player selected by the media (MVP):

So yeah.... Apparently somewhat 10,000 hockey fans were celebrating in the marketplace in Helsinki last night. That was just Helsinki alone

Across Finland tens of thousands finns had the urge to gather to the marketplace ( Look up "Torilla tavataan" meaning :p ).  We sure love it when Finland wins gold medals in ice hockey :champion:

    • Alpine skiing also we have a lot of problems: the men's team is very weak and has been winning a few podiums a season for several years and the our best skier- Dominik Paris is 35. We still have a strong women's team but 3 of the 4 leaders are over 30 (Goggia, Brignone, Curtoni) and Bassino is 28. Another 2 years and we will have the same problem as the men's. There is basically no cross-country skiing without Pellegrino for many years, biathlon is based on 2 individuals with one of them has a 35 years. Vittozzi's injury was enough and we haven`t a single podium this season after 3 stages of the World Cup. As for 1 year to the home games the situation isn`t optimistic.
    • Hail to the Reds... Commanders. First time since 1991 Washington QB has thrown 5 TD passes in a game (which isn't all that improbable in the modern game alas Dan Snyder...)
    • Italy is much better in alpine skiing, in The end all Nations have a Limited Talent Pool. Norway is far better than Sweden/Finland in Cross-Country skiing, alpine skiing and Biathlon, but Sweden/Finland are far better in ice Hockey.  Great Britain wins far more medals than Germany At Summer olympics, but GB is also inexistant in Winter Sports and Most popular Team Sports (Volleyball, Handball, Basketball, Ich Hockey).
    • Thanks, great stat! Tannheimer wont turn 20 until August 2025, so she has The whole Season To Join Kristiansen and Neuner. Too Bad that she was ill this week. I think Galmace Paulin and Tänglander could also do it. I think Grotian (born 2004) is The First female Biathlete born after 1999 To make a World Cup Podium. On The Mens side multiple Athletes (Perrot, Giacomel, Uldal) have already done it.   E. Öberg was 22 and a half when she First won.  Dahlmeier was 21 and a half.   Edit: Grotian only narrowly missed The Podium in The Individual at The 2024 World Championships when she was still  19 year old.
