The Junior World Championships showed that there's solid potential in a lot of countries.

  • Countries that had at least one top 10-finish in the classical distances: :BLR:CZE:ESP:GER:ITA:JPN:KAZ:KOR:NED:NOR:POL:RUS:USA
  • :HUN, :FRA, :AUT and :BEL have a realistic chance to finish top 10 in the mass start tomorrow.
  • :CAN and :CHN did not take part due to COVID-restrictions.

So the future looks very bright in my eyes for international speed skating.

Some outstanding results:

  • :POL Wiktoria Dabrowska is still a junior for four more seasons after this one and already finished top 8 in the girls' 500m and even top 5 in the girls' 1.000m. She's at least 2 years younger than anyone else who made top 10 on both the girls' side. :yikes:
  • :NOR Sigurd Hunriksen is still a junior for two more seasons and finished almost 8 seconds ahead of the #2 in the boys' 5.000m. :yikes:
  • This must be the first international championships ever where :ESP had a top-10 finish on both the girls' and boys' side.

Did the Top Chinese/Canadians also Compete?

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

  • 5 weeks later...

Danila Semerikov (part of a Dutch team) had some interesting clothes during the open Dutch marathon championships in Sweden this weekend :p According to himself, those are just his normal clothes...

Meanwhile in beautiful (for now) Baselga, Davide Ghiotto set the 10k track record at 13:25 minutes Saturday. That had been held at 13:38 by Bart Veldkamp, who with that race almost managed to take the European allround title from Dmitry Shepel in 2001 :d Good times
