It’s a slow few weeks for sports in general at the moment  so luckily the Summer Grand Prix season is here to give us all something to watch.

Well, her last season was pretty bad already. Guess she figured out she's got no chance to win the gold so why bother.

Just reading this now, but that's truly a shame. Probably a smart decision though, it's always best to listen to one's own body even when you're an Olympic medal candidate.

44-year old Janne Ahonen (who basically retired three times over the years) finished 3rd in Finnish National Championships. Another example how far has fallen off the cliff in this sport.

The more shocking news here is that Janne Ahonen is only 44  I always thought he was older, partially because of his numerous retirements.

Alexander Pointner was quoted as telling the German media that he was in contact with Polish federation over a head coaching job. So it's basically official we are looking for a new coach and Michal Dolezal will be fired.

 

Meanwhile the Slovenian women's HC Zoran Zupancic is leaving his post so that ought to suggest he might be in line for a better job.

Thomas Thurnbichler has emerged as the leading candidate for the men's team HC post in Poland.

 

He's probably best know for his "double jump" as a fore jumper in Bischofshofen 2003 (aged 13 back then).
