  1. What's new in this club
  2. Another Silver yesterday for Holly Smith in the Snowboard Big Air. Sadly looking unlikely for more Curling medals with both Men & Women stuck on losing records going into the last couple of rounds.
  3. Woohoo Another medal inthe FISU Games this morning - Silver for Lara Shaw from Luffbro Uni in the Ski Slopestyle. Not really the spectacular run we see in the Olympics, but solid when everyone else ended up face-down.
  4. Mia Brookes top qualifier for the Laax Slopestyle tomorrow, we also have qualifiers in the FISU Slopestyle final.
  5. Short track speed skating Europeans start tomorrow. All streamed on Skating ISU Youtube. Small British contingent although fielding the mens relay. Niall Treacy won silver last year although it will be difficult to compete with the Dutch and Italians.
  6. Gold for great Britain at the university winter games mixed doubles curling
  7. First day medal chance coming up for tomorrow in the World University Games in Torino - we topped the Round Robin in the Mixed Curling, and play Italy in the Semis at 12:00. then onto Bronze or Gold Final later in the evening. Live on Discovery Plus and the fisu.tv website.
  8. I know not technically GB related but it's always nice to have a laugh before they get it horribly wrong. https://athleticsweekly.com/event-news/2025-world-athletics-champs-medal-predictions-1039996198/
  9. And a big air gold for Mia Brookes, with a promising 9th for Txema MAZET BROWN
  10. Wow, double Gold weekend in Winterberg! Matt Weston's turn for Gold in the Skeleton, then an incredible 4 Man win for Brad Hall on a very difficult weather day! Hopefully a bit more media coverage this season. Bobsleigh World Cup: Great Britain win gold in four-man event - BBC Sport
  11. My own suspicion is a) Athletics takes up a lot of the individual awards, which apparently aren't counted b) UKA got some money from UK Sport when they were on the brink last year, and this drop reflects money essentially paid in advance; and c) yes, UKA spending has been a bit of a shambles for a while. Canoe may feel rather put out given the slalom success, but the flatwater programme is poor outside paracanoe, which got separate funding. That's said, Canoe still gets a decent wedge. THe money for Wrestling, handball and volleyball seem almost pointless. For Handball and Volleyball to actually fall behind flag football, lacrosse and baseball is really pretty grim for those two sports.
  12. Not quite sure why hockey has been given an extra million but will let it go on the basis that we need to encourage team sports.
  13. My entirely snap judgment is that Judo and Badminton are *extremely* lucky to receive uplifts considering their recent record, and also that UK Sport clearly has little support for UKA right now.
  14. Last up - the new sports for LA. For the most part these awards are unlikely to be game changing for them so hopefully the already have established programs in place.
  15. On top of the established sports, all of the development sports saw an uplift in their funding although I am struggling to see why wrestling warranted an extra £130k
  16. Funding for LA has been confirmed by UK Sport. With the exception of athletics and canoeing, pretty much every sport has seen their funding increase - with some unusual decisions. Greatest investment to date will power success and inspire impact on journey to LA 2028 | UK Sport
  17. Expecting to have funding announcement for individual sports from UK Sport this week. The Times already reporting that UK Athletics has had a £2mln cut with significant changes to salaries and bonuses paid to athlete coaches.
  18. Fair enough, both. But it just seems a bit strange to fund so many with such limited Olympic outcome over a long period. I'd be delighted to see something meaningful come out of it but, on a surface level, other sports have not been shown as much patience.
  19. Word number 8 can win an Olympic gold medal, I can speak about Italy and if i Remember well boh Quintavalle in 2008 and Basile in 2016 were outside top 10 in ranking, Basile far away from top 10 , and both became Olympic champions
  20. GB's women's water polo team are hoping to end the year on a high in the World Cup Division 2 event in Turkey. Having eased passed yesterday 29-4, they have just beaten hosts 14-8 to secure their place in the quarter-finals. On the men's side, they'll be taking to the pool later in the week. They've be drawn in Group B against and
  21. Winner takes it all situation for GB women's ice hockey team later today. After dispatching 3-2 on Thursday they racked up a 3-0 win over yesterday to maintain unbeaten record in the group. This afternoon they will face off against at 16:00 - whoever wins will top the group and will proceed to the final qualification tournament in February.
  22. To be fair, I think both Giles and Renshall have been ranked #1 within the last year and the current ranking for most of the squad is depressed by the fact that a lot of them haven't competed in the second half of the year. Overall, pretty much everyone on the list is competitive at the Continental Open level. At the Grand Prix level, most of the women in the podium and podium potential group would be in the mix for either a medal or extended podium. Both Giles and Renshall were pretty consistent in the run up to Paris when it came to the Grand Slam events. Nobody on the men's side covered themselves in glory this year and unfortunately nobody performed anywhere near their best when it mattered at the Olympics. I'd guess that the big benefit of being in the WCPP is access to the central support and training facilities at the National Training Centre.
  23. That looks like a lot of very mediocre (on an international level) athletes getting support. I assume the funding is extremely minimal? Only Giles' world ranking suggests an athlete in the right ballpark to do something significant and even then, I don't get the impression that Judo is a sport where the world number 8 is likely to win an Olympic medal (if the Olympics were tomorrow)?
