How does the draw against Denmark help Norway? they are out if they lose to Croatia.
-
Linke, Pohle and Nils Brembach all fulfilled the German National Standards for Rio.

Our womens team will have to play against Australia, our mens team will have to play against Fidji or South Africa. The pots are determined by the olympic results in the last 20 years, so our mens team is in pot 4 because 1988 was the last time that we participated at the olympic games.
There is a 2/3 probability that our womens team will have a very difficult group. Australia + China/Canada would be a very tough group.
Our women won't be in a group with China. Since Australia is in our group, China won't be, because Australia is playing for the Asian federation. So it's either Canada or New Zealand from that pot.

Iraq, Fiji and Algeria will be in the group of Brazil.
That's not possible, if they want to keep the teams from the same confederations apart.
Because Fiji and Algeria won't be in the same group. Fiji is either with Denmark or Germany in the group, and South Africa is with the other one of Germany and Denmark in a group.

You can see the FIFA criteria in this link: http://www.fifa.com/mensolympic/news/y=2016/m=4/news=olympic-draw-what-you-need-to-know-2780213.html
So Germany's women will definitely be in a group with Australia since France and Sweden are in our confederation? And the men will have either South Africa or Fiji in their group, since it can't be Portugal or Sweden? Or did I misunderstand this?

Two teams from the same confederation can not be in the same group.
Then why aren't the four European teams in the same pot?

Indeed. I just read the games report and that Nossek hit the goal post in the last second. Oh my.
-
Well, that was much closer than I expected. Congratulations, Hungary.

France Netherlands is probably a tossup or Netherlands small favourites but other matches i wouldn't be surprised to see one unexpected result out of 3, the difference between those countries isn't like it used to be.
The only chance for an unexpected result in the Germany vs. Hungary game is, if the Hungarian team misses the bus.

Are there any live results for the European Tournament?
-
Well, terrible last quarter. So much for a close game.
-
Not bad so far. And since Netherlands beat Spain, we may have a chance finishing second even with a close loss against Spain. I don't believe that we'll win today.

Netherlands is leading 6:3 against Spain!

Do you have any news about the russian doping cases in mens volleyball? I still have hope that we can go to Rio. I would clearly prefer our mens volleyball team over our mens water polo team in Rio.
No, I don't have any news. I think the decision should be made around the middle of April. And yes, if I had to choose between our Volleyball and our Water Polo team, I would have chosen Volleyball, too.
-
Today it starts. After the good matches against Australia I have a tiny bit of hope that our team will qualify. Though it will be very difficult.

It would be sad, especially because Janas and Berger are also missing, but we still should be able to qualify. I think in top shape we would have the 5th best team in the world behind GB, USA, Russia and China.
Lets say our team wont qualify, would we be able to send Scheder or Seitz to Rio instead of Schäfer? I think Scheder and Seitz would have clearly better medal chances.
I agree that we should be able to qualify anyway. I'm more worried about the men without Hambüchen.
The quota place for Schäfer is a persona one, because she won a medal at the World Championships. That means in case that Germany shouldn't qualify as a team, we can send Schäfer and someone else.
-
This is not yet confirmed. Official statements only say, that her start at the test event is in danger, not that she definitely won't compete.
-
Fabian Hambüchen can't compete at the Olympic Qualifier due to injury.

I know that the quota places are for nations and not for athletes, but in my opinion those athletes who won the quota places should be nominated for Rio, unless Engleder does something really special in the next couple of months.
Frankly, what you would do or what I would do doesn't really matter. In this case the DOSB made a decision, and they decided to give Engleder the same chance to qualify as the others.

Yes i know, you said it before and you dont have to repeat it every day.
In my opinion winning the quota place first is also an "achievement", so those athletes should be the first choices for the quota places. Engleder had the same chance as everyone else, but there were two athletes who won the quota places before her, so those athletes performed better under pressure and in my opinion those athletes are more likely to medal at the olympic games.
But this is not how German federation will do it. Engleder has the same chance to go to the Olympics as the other two have. That's confirmed.

How come rifle prone specialists Daniel Brodmeier and Henri Junghanel are the only members of the German team to assure selection according to DOSB?
Because they were the only one who fulfilled the German National standards in their discipline. Therefore they are already qualified.

Sorry, but mentioning Engleder is wrong. She would have won an Olympic Quota place. It's just that two other Germans won a quota place earlier, which is why they were mentioned by name here. This was done not to count an athlete twice in the Olympic qualification, not because this is *their" quota place.
