  1. Kim and Burgener dominate high-class Copper Mountain halfpipe event Chloe Kim (USA) and Patrick Burgener (SUI) have claimed victory in the 2016-17 season's first halfpipe World Cup event staged at the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix tour stop in Copper Mountain, CO. Facing strong snow fall which made it hard for the boys to land five big hits in the Main Vein superpipe, Kim nailed her third podium and second win in her third World Cup appearance while Burgener earned his career's first in a super tight battle with his teammate Iouri Podladtchikov. The 2014 Olympic Gold medallist from Switzerland had led the top-10 qualifiers after run 2 of the three-run, best one count final with a score of 96.00 before Burgener edged him off the top spot scoring a 96.25 as second to last to drop in stomping a run which included a frontside 1080, to cab 1080 double cork, frontside 900, backside 360 and the first ever switch backside double to finish things off. “I never thought I could pull of the switch backside double 1080 here in this conditions. But I wanted to win, that was my wish. Being in the finals with four teammates gave me the power to win. It's crazy,” Burgener said. The 22-year-old therefore ruined Podladtchikov's chance for a victory lap. The 2013 world champion and last to drop in went all in but couldn't quite make it with a 95.75 finally finishing the event in the runner-up position – despite a 96.00 for his back-to-back 900's, back-to-back double corks and a final alley oop backside rodeo. “I mean I feel great. I can't believe Pat [Burgener] put that one down. It brought me in a weird position as I was getting ready to have a victory lap, and then I was 'oh'! But that was amazing. He sent it, he deserved it,” the man known as iPod lauded his friend. Chase Josey rounded out the podium as third with a 93.75 and therefore as best of four US riders who had made the qualifier cut. Kim with an incredible podium streak of three out of three In the women's competition, Kim prevented a Chinese 1-2 punch with a strong performance in run 2 which consisted of a method to frontside 900, mctwist and back-to-back 720's and was awarded with a 95.50. “I'm super stoked. I'm glad that I was able to put some runs down in these kind of snowy conditions. I had to make some adjustments to my run, and it's hard to mentally ignore the snow or the fact that your snowboard is going slower than it usually does,” Kim commented. The 2016 Youth Olympic Winter Games double gold medallist relegated Jiayu Liu (91.00) and reigning world champion Xuetong Cai (89.25) to the respective second and third rank. The snowboard freestyle World Cup tour continues with the finals of this season's fourth big air event which will take place in Copper Mountain tomorrow at 12:30 PM LOC (8:30 PM CET). "Les Bleus" lost in the trans-alpine derby to host Switzerland 0-1. so in the final tomorrow Switzerland will play Belarus, and for the 3rd place Slovakia will face France. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Challengers, The Only one this weeks challenger is played in Gdansk, Poland today was day 2 of the round-robin tournament, Kazakhstan won against South Korea 4-2 and Poland defeated Ukraine 5-1. 4. Brockhoff and Kearney secure win in nerve-racking Montafon snowboard cross opener Belle Brockhoff (AUS) and Hagen Kearney (USA) have triumphed in a thrilling and exciting snowboard cross World Cup opener staged at Montafon (AUT) today which delivered tons of moments which make boarder cross what it is – a stunning and unpredictable show. Brockhoff, who had secured her first ever podium as third in the Silvretta Alps four years ago on the same slope, came out victorious of a tight battle in the women's final which featured several changes of the lead. After a few back and forth manoeuvres the 23-year-old crossed the line first in a photo finish edging off Chloe Trespeuch (FRA) and Lindsey Jacobellis (USA) to the respective second and third rank. Last year's winner Nelly Moenne Loccoz had to settle for fourth. However, the racer from down under had to play it smart to bring home her career's second: “I have seen how it was going over the last roller section, and I was just trying to stay on my board and wait for the right moment to make the move. I saw my opportunity over the jump and kind of went for it on the right side. That was a bit more flat so I had a bit more speed”, she said before adding: “The course has been challenging with the turns, that's were I had problems in the past. I had to stay patient as the most times I would just have gunned it which would make you lose speed. It's always learning. It was a fun day of racing.” While Brockhoff had the right end of an exciting duel Chloe Trespeuch missed her second triumph by a blink of the eye. However, the reigning French champion was still OK with the result: “I'm really happy with the race. We had a lot of action with the other girls. It's been a good day. It might have been bitter sweet being edged off so close but that's the game.” Historic re-run brings career's first for Kearney While the women got the podium decision done straight in their final, over in the men's event, it took Race Organisers two attempts to finally determine the winner. After Omar Visintin had already started to celebrate a perfect start to the new season, riders and spectators at site got informed that the final heat had to be re-run due to a gate malfunction for Alex Pullin (AUS). In the end, it was Hagen Kearney, who had never podiumed before, who had the best nerves and kept the momentum of his strong start performances also winning the hole shot in the re-run final – just like he did in all of his heats before – to finally bring home a small lead over Visintin and Pullin with 2016 X Games Gold medallist Jarryd Hughes (AUS) missing out the podium as fourth. “I know nobody really wanted to go back up there and race again, so I figured I had to have the edge on everybody. I wanted to do this again. Every time is different. But today, I was full on and ready to go as much as I needed to. I knew it would be a top course to pass so I gave everything I had in the start,” said Kearney who had been pumped for his runner-up finish before the first time in history a snowboard cross big final had to be re-run. “In the second run of the finals, I knew they were going for the inside turns again, so I went even closer than in the first final where I got caught. I felt the heat, and that was it. I can't believe it. I just won, it's insane.” While Kearney capitalised on the technical problems at the start which led to the re-start of the final heat, it was Omar Visintin coming off the wrong end losing the win he already had had in his hand. “When I came down the first final, I was so stoked and relieved. And then at the start of the re-run, I was the one who could only lose. That was hard. But I tried the best and I got second. That's OK. Hagen [Kearney] rode well, and he deserved a good result,” he said before adding: “If the gate opens later, it opens later. A re-run is just fair though. Now I'm second which is a good start to the season anyway. Back in 2014, when I won my World Cup title, I started the season with a runner-up finish, too. Maybe it's a good sign.” At least a good sign, that riders were happy with the jury decision which was forced by the Australian team. “I got held in the gate but it was weird. I couldn't really tell if I was fully held, so I kept going in the run but I had the feeling that my start wasn't really good. When I came to the bottom I asked to see the start again but they already informed me that the coaches had asked for a re-run already as the gate didn't drop,” recalled Pullin the historical situation. “The second final was also tough as I went side by side with Hagen [Kearney] from the start. I let him take the low line and chased him into turn two and had a lot more speed. But then he closed the gap and then things got super close. It was a course where you cannot think about what happens but you just have to go for it. I made the podium which is good, and I'm happy for Hagen [Kearney] and his first win. I'm happy to start the season with a podium,” the two-time world champion said. With the ski cross specialists taking over the course on the Seebliga/Hochjoch tomorrow the snowboard cross athletes return to the scene for this season's first team event on Sunday December 18 at 12 PM CET with the finals starting at 1:25 PM CET. The next stop of the snowboard cross World Cup tour is slated to take place in Solitude (USA), host of the 2019 sbx world championships races, where an individual race and a team event are on the agenda from January 19 to 22, 2017. 12. Without Nastya Kuzmina not competing today because of illness, we started with only 3 biathletes. Only Jana Gereková finished on points, 29th today, her first season points, looks like her re-start in the IBU cup last week helped her. Paulína Fialková is evidently rising her ski speed form so it´s a very good news, unfortunately she was again unlucky in the standing shooting, but despite 3 loops she managed to qualify for tomorrows pursuit from last possible 60th place and tomorrow she may with better luck in shooting range advance higher in the standing and since the time gaps aren´t so big as usually are she eventually can also attacks the points position. Ivona with very bad performance today, slow running and bad shooting resulted in her worst this seasons result so far.. In the Nations Cup we are still 17th, but once again since we will most likely not compete in Oberhof we will certainly drop down...hopefully Kuzmina will recover soon we need her points !!! Great 4th place of Terézia Poliaková in IBU cup to notice, we will see how she will perfom tomorrow in the pursuit. but already she has great chances to return back to the A team.

  14. Awful ! I have no words..Shameful play from our team... I´m very disapointed, I thought there some few really interesting prospects and several players worth to be selected for the World Championhips but no at all ! they are slow, atrocious, without any combativity.. absolute disaster, very bad choice of players for this tournament from the coach. very very bad. we can lost with Belarus but with some dignity and fight not like some frightened schoolchildrens with absolutely no interest about the game. Slovak national hockey jersey is a pride and a honor. each player wearing it must fight with this pride and show it untill the end, this approach what demonstrated these dudes today has nothing with it. disgusting ! hope they will never be called to the NT anymore. and they will be never for sure... disgusting. 1-7 !!! our historical highest defeat from Belarus...oh god what a shame...I will feel embarassed and ashamed for a quite very very long while now thanks those loosers
  15. First-timers crowd alpine combined podium in Val d'Isere All three athletes who finished on the very tight podium in Val d'Isere on Friday were first-timers in alpine combined, but two were rather familiar faces for the start of the 2016/17 season. Slovenian Ilka Stuhec collected her third Audi FIS Alpine World Cup victory in two weeks of racing after holding on in the slalom for her first ever alpine combined podium finish and win. She was noticeably emotional during the awards ceremony in the finish area. "It feels great like every win. Well, all three of them. I felt confident in the start of the slalom, but still I know I could push a bit more, but maybe one part of me just wanted to get to the finish as well. But apparently, fast enough," said Stuhec, whose mother works as her ski technician. "It’s really awesome that I have [my mom] around all the time. I’m really glad she does that even though it’s really hard work. It’s, I guess, really tiring for her. But in the moments like this, I think everything is repaid." Stuhec chased down Michelle Gisin of Switzerland who held the leader box for 16 challengers who could not better her combined time. Ultimately, Stuhec squeaked out the win by a slim 0.12-second margin. For Gisin, it was the first World Cup podium of her career after a rocky start to the season. “Amazing – I feel champagned. I invented a new word because Ilka, when she opened the bottle, it was all in my eyes so I couldn’t see and I just started to cry and run around the girls. But it’s so cool, I’m so happy, just overwhelming joy," said Gisin. "I had tough weeks in the beginning of the season, tough weeks in the States when I really didn’t ski well in Killington. I lost my confidence; I kind of lost the eyes on the prize. I just wanted to ski perfect and very secure. And then I realized I have to enjoy the freedom of skiing again, and that’s it. I think I can rely on so many great people that support me, and that’s what brought me here." Sofia Goggia, third in the race and 0.16 seconds off the winner, has now finished on the podium in four separate disciplines this season. She busted out her dance moves in the finish area after the flower ceremony. “I’m just happy with my skiing and with my performance today. I knew I could have something great today, but you know slalom, I get in my danger [zone] there. So I just tried to stay in the rhythm and focus," said Goggia. "It feels great. No other words needed. Great." Goggia has been identified as an overall contender considering her performances since Killington, but she prefers to focus on individual races. "You know my philosophy of living: I’m just focusing day by day. Tomorrow is another race, and tomorrow I’m going to do my best in downhill. But of course I’m not thinking of the overall. It’s so far away, I can’t see it." Laurenne Ross of the U.S. led the downhill leg by 0.32 seconds over Cornelia Huetter of Austria. Stuhec was third in the morning run, 0.74 seconds back. “I know the downhill in the morning was not perfect. I still have quite some stuff to improve tomorrow, so I’ll try to do that," said Stuhec. The ladies race downhill in Val d'Isere on Saturday at 10:30 CET. Full Results Here Ilka Stuhec 1st Run Ilka Stuhec 2nd Run
  16. Norway reigns supreme in Val Gardena It looks like Norway is expanding its kingdom to the Dolomites as the nation’s men's speed team dominated the podium for a second straight season with Kjetil Jansrud (NOR) topping the super-G standings, edging his teammate Aleksander Aamodt Kilde by 0.06 seconds. Third place went to Canada’s Erik Guay 0.13 seconds off the pace. Last year, the Norwegian men swept the podium here in Val Gardena/Gröden, with Aksel Lund Svindal taking the bragging rights, followed by Jansrud and Kilde. Svindal was on pace to take the title again when he had a few scary bobbles mid-race that forced a DNF for the star. But still, it was smiles all around for the Norwegian team, as Jansrud picked up his third victory in as many speed races this season. Kilde was also happy to earn his fifth career World Cup podium finish as Val Gardena, where he picked up his first-ever career podium last season, must seem like a magical place for the young ace. For Guay, the wait was long to get back on the super-G podium as the last time he made the top three in the discipline was also here in Val Gardena back in 2010. Since then, the Canadian has been strong in the downhill earning 10 podium places, but the super-G eluded him until today. The Canadians places two skiers in the top ten with Dustin Cook taking sixth place. The Italians and Austrians also had strong showings today, each nation closed with three racers in the top-12. It was another perfect sunny, crisp day in the Dolomites, providing excellent conditions for the athletes. Tomorrow is expected to be the same for the much-anticipated downhill, which will begin at 12:15 CET. Following the downhill, the tour moves to the next valley over in Alta Badia for a change of pace with a giant slalom and nighttime parallel giant slalom scheduled for Sunday and Monday. 17. Great result for Terézia. happy for her, seems like send a athlete to the IBU cup is for our womens a real punishment and they immediately try to return back to "A" Team. but here you can see how huge is the difference between World Cup and IBU Cup, with her clean shooting she is somewhere around 70th place in World Cup but in IBU Cup without serious troubles she finished only 5 seconds behind podium !
  18. Nevena Ignjatovic 23rd with 11th fastest slalom run @dareza should be happy, that´s a pretty damn cool result, isn´t ?
  19. Goggia performed a excellent slalom run, Can´t believe that Italian team doesn´t use her also in slaloms, probably she would be the best of the Italians right now... and Ilka Stuhec, just wow, I never expected her to perform so well in slalom, this was also a very very good run. Slovenia has again one great womens alpine skiing champion
  20. Dreaming of PyeongChang 2018 Women’s Olympic Qualification continues this week Face-off between Latvia and Italy. The Italians in white caused an upset on the first day. Beside the IIHF championship events played right now in Germany, Hungary, Estonia and Chinese Taipei – including Belarus and Germany battling it out for promotion to the 2018 World Juniors on Saturday in Bremerhaven – two qualification tournaments for the Olympic women’s ice hockey tournament at PyeongChang 2018 will be played these days. After three tournaments it’s the third and last preliminary round that will end on Sunday in France and Norway. The winner of each tournament will advance to the final round for a berth in Korea. The tournament in France already started yesterday at the new Aren’Ice in Cergy-Pontoise outside of Paris. Lowest-seeded Italy, which won in the earlier preliminary round in San Sebastian, Spain, surprised with a 3-2 win against Latvia while host France blanked China 3-0. The four teams continue with games today and on Sunday. The tournament in Stavanger with host Norway, Slovakia, Hungary and Kazakhstan begins today and will be played on three consecutive days. The winner of each tournament will advance to the Final Olympic Qualification. The higher seeded of the two teams will play in Group D in Tomakomai with host Japan, Germany and Austria; the other team will play in Group C in Arosa with host Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Denmark. The dates for both tournaments are 9th to 12th February 2017. The winners of the final tournaments will get their tickets to PyeongChang 2018 where the top-five teams of the current Women’s World Ranking – USA, Canada, Finland, Russia and Sweden – as well as host South Korea are already qualified.
