  1. No, LOL doesn’t really do it for me.
  2. I would love to hear some good regional/national/linguistic proverbs or sayings if people have any they wish to share.
  3. So Pashtun is close to Persian then?
  4. So I’d say this thread was quite needed looking at the number of pages it’s gotten in only one day.
  5. You’re the one talking about plastic “popote” And no, I’ve got an hour till I normally go to bed. Lights are a first and second world luxury, and I intend to use them as much as possible.
  6. Yes! My Spanish professor has that sing-song type cadence. Haven’t heard the “yell”, but looking forward to it. I must admit my favorite type of Spanish is American White Girl Spanish
  7. Good to know.
  8. I didn’t need to know about your use of “toys” and “strap-ons” . No thank you, not interested
  9. I could’ve told you that one... My high school had a calculus teacher from Egypt (who was also a belly dancer ) Watching him, the Iranian girls, the Syrian guy (who’s family is pro-Assad (which I only found out after I caused an argument after a anti-Assad rant), the Moroccan kid, and another student of Middle East background attempt to have conversations was the funniest shit. Eventually, every would agree that English communication was probably the best. My school actually had a huge amount of non-American students. I’d say there were at least 20 languages spoken at my high school, including some more niche ones like Khmer, Urdu, A Native American language, and a few African ones. We also had your run of the mill French, Italian, Dutch, Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Hindi, Korean, Russian, and Cantonese.
  10. Yep, good ole’ popote . You have a dirty mouth sir
  11. But don’t people get insulted when we say Persian? What should I say? I’ll have to do some research on Kurdish.
  12. Yeah it sounds very unique. It’s think it’s a bit easier on the ears than Hebrew and Arabic variants. I still like Farsi the most out of any language in that region though. Do you know what language family Kurdish comes from?
  13. This is honestly is my favorite rendition of any national anthem. While India’s anthem is probably like my 5th favorite, this edition is my favorite recording of a national anthem. It’s also 100 times better than what was performed at the 2010 Commonwealth Games ceremony.
  14. Do the Kurds speak Arabic (maybe @MHSN would be better to ask)? Because when I listen to interviews it doesn’t sound like Arabic. I actually sounds closer to Hebrew or Parsi.
  15. Isn’t your word for a straw (for a drink) the same words Colombians or Venezuelans use to describe a certain part of male anatomy?
  16. Yeah I’ve picked up on that too. I find the Castilian (Spain) and Argentine Spanish the easiest to understand (accept that the Argentine almost have a different language really). The Latin Americans speak to fast for me, Chileans have too much of a lisp, and those in Caribbean have too much of a mix of language that makes their accent hard to understand
  17. My votes maybe a few hours late @Wumo and @Agger. I can have them by tomorrow for me at 21:00.
  18. There are not a lot of events being shown live, but it seems that almost everything is available on demand a few hours later.
  19. But you didn’t come to our aid during the War of 1812.
  20. It’d be cool to read the book that my favorite play is based off in its native language. (Les Mis for those who couldn’t guess. Les Mis is probably one of the 5 great literary works of all time, definitely in the top 3 ones)
  21. Based off this language I’m 95% @TomJa is secretly British. I love French, but just have no desire to learn it outside of a sports context.
  22. I speak English and very broken Spanish. I feel you bro
  23. Neither can Tim Hortons...
  24. The Kurds are the largest ethnic group in the Middle East without laws/land/traditions to govern themselves. They deserve equal representation on the international level. They’ve also proved for the last 20 years that they’re capable of running a peace/tolerant nation. Again, I said that the Kurds wouldn’t get Turkish land under my terms. They get the land they defended and saved from ISIS. Tradition is dangerous. If we got by the principals of tradition, there is not Polish state. You’d be Lithuanian or German right now (which isn’t bad tbh)
