  1. It’s only snowed 3 times in this town since I was born, and I can only remember two of those times. This is something that just doesn’t happen often, and I love snow, so I get just a little bit excited. I want to move somewhere where it snows more often.
  2. I love the 2015 and 2017 intros. They’re some of my all-time favorites actually. Even the 2005 Intro is better than the one this year.
  3. I’m curious about what’s funny @hckosice? Did I miss something, or did you just enjoy my excitement?
  4. The television broadcast Intro for these games sucks. I’ve never seen something less creative. Not a huge fan of ESPN5 being responsible for the coverage. I mean they’re showing only 11 sports out 56 on the program. The last two games showed at least 20.
  5. Is that the livestream for sports? (at least the ones they’re streaming, or just for ceremonies and highlights)
  6. It’s a combination of Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Backcountry Skiing (it’s where it’s roots are I believe), and Ski Jumping. The most unique aspect of the discipline is the telemark position. You should be able to figure out what that is.
  7. Uzbekistan could definitely get the job done, not sure about Thailand. They definitely could if they choose the organizing committee well. Malaysia and Singapore the SEA countries I’d most prefer as hosts.
  8. Favorite day of the year . We got between 3 and 4 inches on the valley floor, 1 foot in the smaller hills, and 2 - 3 feet in the mountains. Got the opportunity to tobogganing. Here’s a few pictures from around the house:
  9. I thought they had a 17 year old going for it. The was last winter, so he’d definitely still eligible. The IOC even made a huge deal about it. I wonder what happened?
  10. What sport? Afghanistan has an opportunity, but their skiers will need to improve.
  11. I have hope for the women, the men...
  12. Men’s Water Polo, Floorball, and Fistball are completely Euro-centric too.
  13. Until the last minute (Over the last two months) when they realized they were fucked. I think they’ll pull this off, but not without drama as we’ve already seen
  14. Skating starts in a few hours, and there are rumors that the rink is nowhere near finished yet. Hopefully that’s not true.
  15. These games are a disaster waiting to happen. I keep seeing very worrying images from journalist, and have heard multiple complaints about an assortment of topics from the athletes. From what I’ve heard, volunteers aren’t being fed during long shifts (as they should be), and some are finding transportation impossible. wants to launch a bid for the 2030 Asian Games. That will be a hard no from me. I’d rather Qatar. Nothing against Philippines hosting the games by the way. I put all the blame on a terrible and most likely corrupt organizing committee.
  16. Schubert and McColl will be in the medal hunt too. The Germans seem a but weak currently, but they too could feature. I think about 3/4ths of those currently qualified have a legitimate medal chance.
  17. Except that there should be a reward for hosting the Olympics. Also, sports without home participation don’t generally get as many spectators. Plus, it’s just fun to see home athletes in events.
  18. Best political joke of the month.
  19. If Coleman qualified that would be rather unexpected. To be honest, I wasn’t sure if the US would qualify anyone. Great performance clearly
  20. Ice Cross, Climbing, and Natural Track Luge. (Bandy, Synchronized Skating, and Telemark Skiing would need more participation and expansion)
  21. Ice Cross is a legitimate winter sport. I’m confused by what you mean.
  22. No, but that’s a good question. I’ve just always struggled with
  23. I’ve always struggled a bit with and . I always want to say Nambia
  24. I love new sports, but 100% no. Summer sports should not create winter versions just to get onto the Winter Olympic program. There are still multiple actual winter sports and disciplines that have been left off the program. I fear the IOC will add some of these abominations though.
  25. Ah, thanks. @MHSN @Laraja I’ve never seen that happened at the World Cup level, but that’s a semi-normal occurrence in indoor climbing. Some holds are just tough to bolt down, and sometimes some just come loose.
