  1. Dammit that’s the first sport I thought of, and then somehow skipped. Yes, that should also certainly be an the hypothetical program.
  2. Not that uncommon I’m beginning to find out. It seems like quite a few countries have just gone with umbrella snow sport and ice sport federations. It’s mostly the traditional countries that have separate federations.
  3. The juxtapositions of Brazil have to be some of the craziest things in the world. One city will have an artificial ice rink that serves as a training ground for competitions thousands of miles away, while a small village in the Amazon may still be uncontacted by the “outside” world. Honestly one of the coolest things about Brazil in my opinion. Yeah Brazil, Chile, and Argentina have done really well to qualify record participation in a winter event this time around. PanAm Sports really do need to consider bringing the winter games back. We could easily have Figure Skating, Short Track Speed Skating, Curling, Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Freestyle Skiing, and Snowboard
  4. New Challenger Series: https://games24.totallympics.com/?p=1153
  5. Closer to 20 I believe...I’m going to post team sizes in the next few days. There’s still some reallocations I need to figure out, as well as additional spreadsheet work and whatnot.
  6. It’s not the OC’s call though. OBS is the host broadcaster, and ultimately they made the call on what to show. This is actually the first time OBS have been the host broadcaster (at least as a stand alone entity) of the Youth Olympic Games. I don’t know if French of Swiss TV would be allowed to pick up other sports if they wanted to, but I’d imagine they can’t/won’t. I will say that the Olympic Channel have always been pleasant. They’ve responded to every request and inquiry I’ve made, and they do generally try to give everyone as much information as possible. They’re honest too.
  7. That’ll be a hard no from me.
  8. Interesting, this short film “Akeda” is much better than Nefta Football Club in my opinion. Though it may have been too dark for the academies liking.
  9. Plus, you could just visit a nice Slovenian beach instead.
  10. Thank You for taking the time to explain all of the that. India can be a confusing country for those unfamiliar with it.
  11. Adam Ondra is having a live Q & A 1 hour from now:
  12. Olympic Channel response to my questions about livestreaming: “I would like to direct you to our event page which has more specifics with regard to the live event coverage and schedule information: https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/events/detail/lausanne-2020-youth-olympic-games/ This page is where fans and viewers will be able to find all the streams once they go live.We are live streaming and will offer VOD of all events that OBS is producing. Unfortunately, not all events will be produced. However, all events and disciplines will be covered through highlights, news, stories, etc. [Kindly note that OBS is our sister company and are the host broadcaster for the YOG, but they do not oversee the Olympic Channel.]” So it doesn’t sound like there will be any streaming or full event replays for events not on the schedule. All the events of the schedule will be covered in their entirety. Also, learned that OBS isn’t the parent company of Olympic Channel (and I now feel like a fool).
  13. Can’t say the same. I grew up in one of few conservative areas of California (though we’ve seen a demographic shift to liberal after the Great Recession). The guy who talks about his crew team, is pretty how my cross country team was. This article was a very good insight into “youth” “masculine” culture in my opinion. I was always teased for having a high voice, or for liking to sing. I’d say the article hit pretty close to home for me. Definitely gave me a lot to think about.
  14. I’m going to assume CAB is the name of citizenship law? My biggest problem is that it seems like a step in the wrong direction towards peace in the area. Hindi nationalism has been on rise for the last few years, and this law seems fueled by it. Slumdog Millionaire is how most Americans learned of Muslim mistreatment by Hindus.
  15. It’s catchy . Those they say Kazakhstan a few too many times I think. I‘be actually been trying to learn India’s
  16. I’m glad you’re looking forward to Birmingham 2021. I plan on being there, so hopefully I can get some good pictures, interviews, etc. Totally agree on the para sports thing. I think Lausanne2020 will be a great YOG. It really sucks that there’s no Indian representatives, but that’s just the failure of the IOA. I still think it’s a bit early for India to give winter sports an honest look. I think that within the next 10/20 years, they will be in a place where they can afford to find skiing (and maybe Short Track/Figure Skating).
  17. @Finnator123 may aslo want to mention the Finnish hockey team playing at the Deaflympics currently. I think they still have a shot at a medal.
  18. Absolutely terrific article about masculinity in the United States. I’ve never felt more understood quite frankly. I would have loved to have been interviewed for those piece. There’s so much to talk about in here. It’s a very long article, but highly recommend reading it if you get the chance. If anyone does end up reading it I’d love to talk about it. Here’s a link: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2020/01/the-miseducation-of-the-american-boy/603046/?utm_medium=social&utm_content=edit-promo&utm_campaign=the-atlantic&utm_source=twitter&utm_term=2019-12-16T14%3A58%3A53 @Rdbc you would probably relate to this as well I imagine. Maybe @bmo as well.
  19. I just watched Nefta Football Club this morning. What the odds of that . It was a nice short film, but not a winner in my opinion. I’ll have to watch all the shorts now. I still need to see Joker, Little Women, Knives Out, and My Name Is Dolomite too. Maybe Harriet as well.
  20. Shortlist of films that could be nominated for Best International Film at the 2020 Oscars: Parasite will almost certainly win the category. It seems like Honeyland may be the only other film with a shot. I still can’t believe the Capernaum was robbed in this category last year. It was the best foreign film by a mile.
  21. What does it take to file a lawsuit against someone in the international court? I’m 95% this breaks international law regarding asylum. Completely disgusting behavior. “We” will send all immigrants to Honduras, including ones that have never set foot in the country before. Being as Honduras already fought a war with El Salvador over immigration, I feel this won’t end well...
  22. So what games do Indians consider important? Not YOGs, not Commonwealth, not SAG, which ones? This all seems a bit ridiculous to me. Winter sports are just legitimate as summer sports, and the Winter Olympics are equal the Summer Olympics.
  23. Oh God, not again . We’ve all learned our lesson about starting any topic with the word decade in it.
  24. Well my mayor is a lifetime to Republican so probably not, but my community college is, and they let kids sleep on campus and give them whatever assistance they need to pursue and education and remain in the US.
