  1. Jessa Khan takes silver in a shocking loss though! She was her country’s only female gold medalist from the 2018 Asian Games. She looked good at the start of the bout, but she had a couple of costly mistakes towards the end. Interestingly, she beat Jenna Kaila Napolis at the 2019 SEA Games in The Philippines. They’ve now both defeated each other as home favorites. A fun little rivalry to take note of for the future.
  2. First medals to be awarded today Hopefully some of those competitions are broadcast
  3. Sambo will be added to the main sports program of the The World Games 2025. I believe all the sports that featured in 2022 will stay on the program as well. The LOC has shortlisted the following sports for the invitational sports program: American Football (Flag Football), Cheerleading, Dragon Boat, Duathlon, Freestyle Inline. I believe one (or maybe more) of the following para sports will be included as well: Wheelchair Rugby, Wheelchair Dance, Para Ju-Jitsu, Freediving Disabled. The IWGA also mentioned a proposal regarding Powerboating in the article, but the status of that seems unclear to me. 4. We already knew that from their Eurovision entries
  5. I definitely understand the security risks around TikTok, especially when it comes to national defense and sensitive devices. My thought when I posted my comment was that some observers might consider banning an app outright to be a restriction of speech. The argument could be made that the government is making a decision on who is allowed to facilitate speech, and in what context. However, the national defense angle certainly complicates that argument. I’ve never used the platform personally, so I don’t really have an established on opinion on the mater. I just find the whole situation interesting from a communications law standpoint.
  6. Yeah, I don’t think sharing/authoring a news article about a current event is asking to be “treated like royalty.” I’m pretty sure it’s a basic job function and an essential part of press freedom.
  7. has been in the 40s for the last few years. Musk’s takeover of Twitter has been a blow to press freedom on the platform though. He literally suspended multiple US reporters from the platform after they reported on all the drama surrounding that account that tracked his flights. I’d imagine my government’s stance on TikTok might rub some observers the wrong way as well. is likely counted as one country since that’s how presents itself internationally. I think most rankings like this tend to count to the UK as a monolith, rather than as separate entities.
  8. 2023 World Press Freedom Index has been released.
  9. This looks like it’s part of the host broadcast coverage (it has the same graphics pack anyway), but it’s not being shown anywhere else. It seems kind of odd given the rights are free and there are certainly there other NOCs who stand to do well in the sport.
  10. took some losses on the women’s side, but it seems all the other NOCs remain largely unchanged. Still, COPACI making a case for most confusing and poorly written qualification system today.
  11. Okay, so I originally thought a NOC could only win 1 quota per road cycling event, but then you posted multiples for the men’s time trial and I just went with it. I shan’t be lead a stray be the man from Toronto once more. Apologies. Edit: Oh, actually…I’m still wrong as well. I don’t know what’s going on there.
  12. Not really sharing this one for the political content, but more the storytelling. A very well written article that’s an easy read. I figure some of our Danish users might be interested in this one. Personally, I love visiting Solvang (so many good bakeries, sights, and boutique shops), so seeing yet another community tear itself apart over culture clashes is sad
  13. I’ll be cheering for to advance out of the group
  14. I’m not a big professional sports guy in general. I stay up to date on the bigger stories and games, but otherwise I mostly follow international and college sports.
  15. I’d like to see them advance, but I think Uruguay and Colombia will beat them
  16. No idea why there were no entries. It’s a weird trend in mountain biking.
  17. failing to qualify any male mountain bikers for the second edition in a row. A little embarrassing considering we invented the discipline
  18. Men - *Every eligible NOC that finished the race should get a quota
  19. Avancini and Vidaurre both off the podium is a bit of a surprise. I figured at least one of them would find the podium, if not the quota.
  20. Current distribution of beach handball quotas according to the IHF. Men - (European and African continental quotas still to be awarded.) Women - (European and African continental quotas still to be awarded.)
