  1. If you’re looking for something a little different to watch this weekend… One of my favorite annual RedBull events, RedBull PlayStreets, took place this week. It involves athletes competing on a narrow, winding, innovative slopestyle course through the streets of Bad Gastein
  2. These are both pretty good. Much better options than the logo vote.
  3. My thoughts exactly. These are fantastic from an artistic and genre innovation perspective, but they’re not really a successful form of non-verbal communication in regards to being universally understood.
  4. Even under a neutral flag their top athletes are still registering positive tests before or during the Olympics. We can’t even award medals in team figure skating because of the quagmire they’ve created. Belarus was also already on thin ice for political discrimination against their own athletes. The blame lies solely with their government there.
  5. Planet Canoe is moving their broadcasts from YouTube to Recast (same platform used by World Curling).
  6. Death toll has now passed 15,000 people
  7. Are they not governing some of the multi-sports games tournaments? I thought they still had a hand in some?
  8. Lack of snow, or too much snowfall? I’m assuming the former, but it’s been a confusing winter for Europe
  9. What about sport climbing? It stands out well, and it is probably my favorite of the bunch.
  10. There will be much bigger problems if boycotts extend to continental multi-sport events. I’m not sure how many of those events are overseen by the IBA still, but boycotts could leave Olympic qualification a mess (assuming the sport is still on the program at the end of the year.)
  11. Like I said in my post, I don’t expect, nor do I think, every nation is on board with banning BLR/RUS from Paris 2024. My comment was a more a general gripe about how any major decision made the by the IOC is almost always unequivocally supported without any dissent or suggestion of modification. This saga has just been a good demonstration of that point. I’ve been pretty adamant with my posts on here that the Olympics are intrinsically political. I do think an effort should be made to build bridges using sport, especially at the Olympics. However, I’d suggest violating the Olympic Truce after running a state-sponsored doping program isn’t exactly conductive of building those bridges between nations.
  12. It’s a shame those got leaked early by accident. While I’m not sold on the pictograms yet, it is nice to finally see some more innovation there after the last few Olympics.
  13. will boycott both world championships held by the IBA this year. Governance issues, along with the IBA’s decision to let BLR/RUS boxers compete with their flag and anthem, cited as mains factors for the boycott.
  14. Official poster was revealed this week. I quite like it.
  15. Organizers seem to be teasing some sort of announcement for tomorrow night at Sanremo…
  16. It’s really grown on me lately. I’m certain it’s not that easy to weave four different languages into a coherent arrangement. The song excels lyrically (in terms of what they want to achieve with it.), so if they can improve the vocals and clean up the staging a bit it could be a real contender.
  17. My current (very rough) ranking based on national finals and live performances. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.
  18. And the winner is…Vesna’s “My Sister’s Crown.” delivering the first quadlingual entry this year. Definitely the first “political” entry as well.
  19. Because the IOC, and to a greater extent the wider international sports network, has become an echo chamber that confirms the viewpoints of those in charge. It was honestly amusing watching PanamSports, EOC, OCA, ANOC, IFs, NOCs, etc. trip over each other to welcome the IOC’s position This isn’t to say there is or isn’t large support for the path they’re going down, I just feel like you’d really expect to see a greater diversity of viewpoints on such a divisive subject
  20. Sailing quotas from US Open Series (unconfirmed by Panam Sailing). M ILCA 7 - W ILCA 6 - M IQFOiL - W IQFOiL - M Formula Kite - W Formula Kite - M 49er - W 49er FX - (Not Held) Mixed Nacra 17 - (Not Held)
  21. It’s been a pretty snowy winter in California, but there’s some fears the tap might get turned off before we build a big enough snowpack to get out of our drought…
  22. I live in the United States, and you still might genuinely be the first person I’ve met from North Dakota
