  1. The only 'major international channel' I found was Eurosport showing a few minutes of alpine skiing (and maybe some curling hidden somewhere on the Player)
  2. I didn't say it counts for nothing, just that I'm massively underwhelmed (especially after Lillehammer 2016 and to some extent Buenos Aires 2018). Also: don't mind me, it's mostly just my frustration about these Games speaking.
  3. I'm curious how these games were better than Lillehammer.
  4. Reigning world champion Twan van Gendt suffered a bad hand injury during the last big strength session in the gym. He's had surgery and will be out for 8-12 weeks, which he hopes will be in time to qualify and prepare for the Olympics.
  5. This contest should count towards the official standings In all seriousness: one of the best contests we've had, especially in terms of the format. I like this way more than the standard "X wins by Y goals" kind of things (although I'lll gladly participate in those as well of course).
  6. I knew not to expect a lot, but still feel disappointed now that it's all over: I've barely seen anything, because the things I wanted to see (a lot of the classic winter sports) weren't shown, and that makes it a lot harder to really get into it. I'd rate it a 3 out of 10 in terms of how I feel about it, meh. I feel sorry for the many youth athletes who were sort of made to believe they'd compete in something huge, without realizing the IOC doesn't give a fuck.
  7. And even worse: in the final, the commentator just keeps calling Shogo Miyata (Japanese, male) Kim Chan-seo (South Korean, female) throughout the entire final I don't know how he doesn't see it's clearly not a South Korean suit he's wearing. Even worse: he doesn't even know Kim is a girl. "And Kim Chan-seo gets another gold medal to go with his 1000m gold medal!" That's just two wrong things in one: Kim is a girl and Kim got 1000m silver

  10. Oh and what's the logic behind the shorttrack relay having both letters and colours? They're only mentioned as "Team A", "Team G" etc on the start lists, while the commentator literally only mentions their colours ("the blues are in front, but here come the whites!"). Meaning you have to follow three separate things (athletes, colours and letters) to follow your favourite athletes
  11. Watching the shorttrack now and it's unbelievable how bad the TV directors were, every single time I mean, they didn't show most events these Youth Olympics, but at least they showed shorttrack...and then they did it that bad, only showing the leader even if the leader is completely alone and there's a huge fight behind them.
  12. Personally I find Dave The Rocket Ryding more annoying. Maybe because the Dutch commentator calls him that every single time.
  13. Losing 4,5 minutes in a downhill training, that's something https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/general/results.html?sectorcode=AL&raceid=100138 Yeah I know obviously he must have crashed or met with some other mishap. Smart to get up and finish anyway, just in case tomorrow's last training is cancelled like the first one.
  14. But especially for Kilde I'm not sure he is that much better that he can make up for all the speed points he loses. He definitely has the potential, but isn't there yet.
  15. Kilde has the talent, but like Federer said, just not the consistency. Of course that can change with years, people improve after all, but at the moment he simply needs more than what he has (or shows). Kriechmayr and Mayer also don't seem consistent enough (though more than Kilde I'd say) to really fight for the overall globe..
  16. I highly doubt that. One can imagine they think so of a random African country in between several Muslim countries, but Belarus? Nah.
  17. But I doubt more than 10% of Americans has ever even heard of Belarus, so why would they care? It's not a muslim country as far as I know, so the whole "It's just a muslim ban packaged as a travel ban!" doesn't fly there.
  18. At least two of the three wins came from (slight) favourites at the bookmakers, which suggests it's not a huge upset if it is one
  19. What's the problem with Belarus?
  20. That one seemed to be more serious than this so far...there are dozens of diseases that kill more people that most people have never even heard of.
  21. I've got a feeling Bariloche and Portillo are not on the list?
