  1. Never been a fan of him at all actually, it's mostly a play on the absolutely insane hype around him in Belgian media since forever Although I have of course always very much appreciated his skills, those are undeniable really.
  2. "No disgrace for the Eritrean!" Perfect example of this commentator never watching cycling, otherwise he'd know Amanuel is just not much of a time trial rider (like so many pro riders), but he is a solid World Tour rider with climbing skills which are in the upper half of the pro peloton.
  3. And surprisingly, the Race Analysis tab actually makes it not too hard to follow how it goes!
  4. Which shows an interesting drop in their performance, because they've won a medal all the time, yet this time they were not even one of the three favourites and were merely the main outsider for bronze if one of the top-3 dropped the ball.
  5. Hehe, Japanese officials completely stressed out of their mind because she's holding up the protocol by a minute or so with celebrating
  6. Last time a women's time trial winner was under 30 years old https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cycling_at_the_1996_Summer_Olympics_–_Women's_time_trial In 2000 the winner was 30, after that always 34+
  7. Van Vleuten is born in the town of Vleuten, by the way
  8. Van Vleuten backstage: "I really need a bra", followed by her visibly picking a bra from her bag. Dutch commentator: "Van Vleuten quickly grabbing a facemask." Ergo, the Dutch commentator doesn't recognize a bra, that's a little painful
  9. Reusser beats vdBreggen, that is awesome
  10. Medal for Brown Unless Reusser does something amazing.
  11. What a ride for Van Vleuten
  12. Grace Brown is well on course for silver so far
  13. They do sometimes hire co-commentators who are actually involved in the sport, that helps. The OBS commentators themselves though are usually full with cliches like "and now he really has to push through the pain!" or "now it's all about who can get there the fastest!".
  14. Van Vleuten destroying Neben's time at the split. Then again, it really should be between her, vdBreggen and Dygert. And if Dygert has fully recovered, it really should be for silver between Van Vleuten and vdBreggen.
  15. Not so much the case in cycling because of a lack of a real world ranking, but in every single sport with some sort of a world ranking, they are entirely fixated on that in determining who are the favourites. Like, 100%. With so many of them, you can just sense every single time that they're commentating on sports they really don't ever watch outside of the Olympics.
  16. Amialiusik has six (!) national titles, even bigger favourite.
  17. Moolman-Pasio has five national titles as well, might be a red-hot favourite!
  18. This is one of the sports where I'm so happy we have our own regular commentators who commentate on the sport all year long
  19. Time for the women's time trial. Interestingly, Kiesenhofer had been preparing for a while for this time trial (and not at all the road race), but didn't know Austria had a road race quota....and not a time trial one, so she did the road race Didn't go bad at all.
  20. The Sinkovec brothers aren't as good as they were anymore or what?
  21. Too bad the Australian idiot coach with his yelling and screaming at other athletes in the facilities gets gifted a medal here (although nice for their athletes, of course).
